Default 60's Apollo Tension Rods

I'm trying to restore my late brother's 1960's Apollo drum kit. Does anyone know where I can source 12 tension rods for the toms and also a hoop and tension rods, etc for the front of the bass kick drum? And help or direction would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello and to VDF!

drumfactorydirect.com has always done right by me. You'll need to measure how long the existing tension rods on the toms and bass drum are. They will all be easy to find. If the new tension rods don't match the current threading on the drums (although they should), you can always replace the threaded insert the sticks out of the lug if you need to.

Good luck-that is a nice looking kit!

Make sure anyone you discuss buying these from - - that they know it is Japanese and made by Star. You might find someone here with what you need. Post in the WANTED section and you could very well get this resolved in a couple days.

Hi guys... my rookie mistake... I mistakenly thought the floor tom had the same length T-rods as my mounted tom. If anyone can source me 8 of the 2 3/4" Apollo/Star t-rods I would really appreciate it. attaching a picture. So close to getting this project done!

That would be a 2 3/4" rod, as only the part from the head of the rod down is measured.

A word of caution regarding drum factory direct. They sell mostly rods that are compatible with domestically manufactured drums, even the vintage ones. Most of their tension rods will NOT fit your Apollos. You need MIJ rods from the era. Even among them, there are at least two different thread patterns, a fine one (relatively rare) and medium one (pretty much the standard of the time). You might be better off sourcing them here.

I think modern Pearl or Tama rods will probably work as well.

Thanks for the advice. I've had really good luck and help with sourcing the shorter t-rods and other parts on this board (thanks to some gracious folks). Just need 8 more longer t-rods to finish the project.

I just wanted to post a quick pic of the progress on my late brother's Apollo drum set -- and more importantly -- say Thank you to the amazing folks on this forum for the support and spare parts! 6 more 2 3/4" t-rods for the floor tom and it will be complete. My big brother would be smiling .
