Default FIBES help, not sure what im dealing with, urgent
VDF, early sunday im prepared to drive a few hours to pick up this farmingdale era 24" Fibes bass drum. Just one problem, I own a nazareth era fiberglass mirror wrap kit, and the shells on this kit seem to be completely different, see pictures;

1. the inner shell is not painted black
2. the legs look nothing like the usual clip in fibes legs, in fact they go through the shell, have never seen fibes do this.
3. the legs are not mounted/drilled in the exact same location as my farmingdale 24" (see picture 1)
3. there seems to be a reinforcing hoop, another first for fibes
4. The badge does not seem to have a serial number. also the spacing of the printing on the badge seems to differ slightly from the farmingdale badge on my acrylics.

Now I know Fibes did just about whatever they could to get drums out the door, including adding hardware from other companies, but I've never seen a drum this different. Also, the asking price is $125, so this is not likely a fake, as the hardware on that drum is worth just about that much.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks VDF.

Best case scenario, I've found an early prototype!

Also, just remembered i have an old fibes catalog, and one of the fiberglass shells is shown with a reinforcment ring, so one question may be answered. the rest still remain.

Hey Evan, First of all at 125.00 for the drum i would be all over that...In 1970 when Fibes started to make fibesglass shells the first one's were black painted with a reinforcing hoop on the drum,then they change it to the drum you have a green/yellow color fiberglass that they did not paint black-[same fiberglass under the black paint]]..The spurs on the drum you are looking at somewhat looks like Camco's or Rogers the hex shape to the legs make me think this a better photo of the spur mounts and legs would tell alot....True when you ordered drums from Fibes you could order them with out mounts,Tom mount,floor tom leg/bass drum leg mounts..and add whatever mounts the drummer liked...I have a few sets of fibesfiberglass sets one has all fiber mounts the other one has Ludwig mounts on them..both are fiberglass shells...i even have a vistalite set with Camco mounts on them....Mikey

Mikey, the price is great, but the drive is about three hours, so me and my 16mpg had to factor that in, I didnt want to show up and be like man what did i get into.

But yeah i think you are right, really no reason to not pick this up, its just an interesting piece. Thanks a lot, i'll let you know how it turns out. - Evan
