Default Rogers' Eagle Badge

I'm trying to obtain some "accurate" information regarding the time period in which the Rogers Drum Company mounted its Eagle badge on its shells.

I've seen several publications that allege that this badge was used during the "pre-50s" time-frame.

Can some of you Rogers "experts" out there help me out with this one?

Wasn't this badge used in the late 50s - early 60s time-frame?

Something seems out of whack here (and maybe it's me)!

Thanks!

No...not you. Most of the vintage drum books were done a few years back and contradict each other on some specific dates and facts. I gathered this info a while back. The eagle badges are in there too...I went by what I saw in print that came from the factory. I was born in 1973. Didn't see it happen. They used up a lot of parts and badges so it is a bit washy. Also catalogs showed the same pics for years that could of been an older pic. For what it is...Enjoy!

I was asked to date Rogers badges for a friends web site and here is what I was able to gather. Still a little dizzy and would advise to read the following with coffee. Tough to give exact dates for a non exact factory! If the following needs a correction please do not hesitate to chime in. Enjoy! Peace, Gary

SMALL OVAL Joseph Rogers Jr.& Son-A Rogers
Product-Quality Guaranteed was used from 1938-1952/53
on tom toms.

Important to note that 1938 catalog didn't show the
draped rectangular badges on the rocket lug snare
drums. The different snares were called Union, Daisy
or Three Star but the badges were seen in the 1940
catalog on the new "R" lug drums in the picture. 1938
catalog also shows a round Gretsch looking badge on a
Three Star parade drum picture and a small
square(blurry so you can't see the writing) that looks
a lot like a Gretsch tag used.

Soo Brand was from 1938-1951. I think this one badge
didn't make it out of Farmingdale NJ. It was use on
their lower end single tension models.

Daisy Brand was from 1938-1952/53. This badge made it
to one rivet lug/pop sickle stick snare drum OH
Covington.

Three Star Brand was from 1938-1952/53. This badge
made it to two rivet lug/pop sickle stick snare drums
OH Covington.

No example of Daisy Brand or Three Star Brand were
found past a rivet lug snare drum at this time.

Union Brand was from 1938-1957E catalog (57E only two
snare drums Lexington and Monitor models).

Union Brand badge was used on all three 1953/54 coffin
bolt lug snare drums.

1955 and 57E snare page shows Monitor Model with the
Union badge.

*note* The 1957 catalog shows the same Lexington and
Monitor models with an eagle badge and a twist in the
Orchestra strainers arm.

Eagle badges from (54?)1955-1958 (all eagle badges)
but...eagle badges are found in the 1960 and 1962
catalogs as well. 1964 catalog shows eagle badges on
some marching drums too.

large reflector oval with leaning backwards script was
used on Classmate and Banner model snare drums from
1959-1960 but probably found/sold 1958-62

large pirate R script 1959-1960 but...1958 (59R
catalog) has the first odd script on the cover logo
design.

leaning backwards script 1959-60 but...1962 catalog
shows drums with some older odd scripts also.

regular OH script logo 1961-1968/69 First appeared in
the 1962 catalog and by the 1964 catalog was the only
script logo shown.

flatter script Fullerton CA 1969/70-1975

1975-some drums had both the last flatter script logo
and the new big R square badge on the same snare.

Gary N.:

First, let me say that I actually read your input while drinking some "tea", since I'm not a "coffee" drinker. I think, perhaps, that I should be drinking something a "tad" stronger, after the information that you presented (LOL)!

I really do appreciate the time you took to provide the great feedback.

The reason I initially brought the question up was because I've got a Rogers WMP Holiday kit and two of the drums (floor tom & snare) have the Rogers Eagle Badge, while the other two (bass drum and rack tom) have the Rogers script badge. All four of the drums have the Bread & Butter lugs and I'm simply trying to "estimate" the vintage of the kit.

If I read your post correctly, the Eagle badge was used from either 1954 or 1955 through 1958, between 1960 & 1962, and in 1964 on Rogers' marching drums.

I'm still trying to determine if my two Eagle-badged drums are from the 50s or the 60s.

THANKS AGAIN
for your input!

Thank you.

I put the question mark next to 1954 beacause I've never seen that snare page before. When Rob Cook provided the 1955 scan of the snare page he reassured me that the 54 is identical. If you go to the Rogers section on this web site you can get to the history section 1954/55 to see this page on the bottom. New here as of Dec. last year. I had some down time and tried to set the early years straight. New info was just realized this week. David was very patient with me to get the corrections done this evening. Thanks again David!

Do you have any pictures of your kit? This will help a lot. If you can't post here email it to me direct fltgrycleav@yahoo.com

I'd like to see which version of the 2 script logos you have as well.

Grey interior eagle badge drums were later 50s like the black interior were mid 50s. If your set came together with a mix of eagle badges and script logos that is possible and not strange at all. Are your b+b lugs ridged (1958)or flat topped(1957 and earlier)? Probably have the center ridge if they are with script logo drums. The set is around 1958-60ish Peace, Gary
