Re: Bolero Drums

I just purchased a "Bollero" snare that was definitely made by Pearl. In the process of restoring it now - shell is 5 5/8" deep. Very cool old drum.

Re: New MIJ find - Cadet badge - any input

Anyone sitting on a lot of MIJ/Pearl parts? I'm missing the following:

6 - tension rods for 12" tom (they're longer than standard - I will measure when I can)
2 - bass drum spurs and mounts (I...

Re: Looking For Info On ROXY Kit

Back in the early 90s, there was an old music store in my hometown that still had NOS Roxy kits stacked up in their back room, still in the boxes. Whole kits from the 60s, still brand new. I bought...

New MIJ find - Cadet badge - any input

Hey everybody, hope all is well and everyone's staying safe out there.

I just picked up this little MIJ kit - the toms and bass drum are "Cadet" and the snare is "Bollero", which I've seen before....

Wanted: Black 90s Pearl Export bass drum

Hi all,

Looking to purchase a 16x22" Pearl Export bass drum in black wrap like the one pictured - long lugs. I believe they are early 90s? Trying to build a double-bass kit for a friend who is...

Re: Recently acquired a Slingerland set - need help identifying :-)

Great looking kit and it will sound fantastic too. $500 is a fair price for sure.

Re: Stewart Drums

Funny story.

At one time in the 90s I owned a 70s Gretsch kit which I used for live gigs, and I picked up a 2nd hand (or 4th or 5th or 6th hand) Stewart MIJ kit in blue sparkle to keep in the...

Re: Rewrapping with Aluminum Flashing - cheap!

Thanks Mark,

I honestly was reluctant to do it because I'm usually pretty bad at measuring and cutting things, and lack the patience to do things carefully - but this was easy. And it was cheap,...

Rewrapping with Aluminum Flashing - cheap!

Hey everybody, some of this information is repeated from another thread, but I thought I would post a dedicated one in case anyone's searching for it later.

I purchased a set of old Pearl...

Re: Pearl Fiberglass advice

Well, for those interested - I tried a couple of test holes with tinted fiberglass resin and it works great to fill the holes, but is still very noticeable and doesn't blend in with the original...

Re: Pearl Fiberglass advice

A quick google search answered that question. I guess my only other question is once I've filled the holes, is it safe to sand with just a basic disposable mask?

Re: Pearl Fiberglass advice

I was hoping you would be one of the ones to pipe in :)

Is that something easy to find at a local hardware store?

Pearl Fiberglass advice

Hi everybody,

My latest project is a Pearl fiberglass kit, which I got for a great price. Sizes are 22" and 24" kick drums, 16" and 18" floor toms, and a 10x14" rack tom. Snare is a heavy COS...

Re: Meinl Raker 13" Hi-hats

I had a 20" medium ride and a 16" medium crash back in the 90s - they were decent cymbals, loud and bright like most B8 cymbals are. I think they were trying to replicate some of Paiste's cymbals...

Re: Ludwig Rocker paint and decal disaster!

Thanks Vater. Still seems pretty steep - my local hardware store has bags of 7/16" size - 500 pieces - for $5. That's one penny each. But to my knowledge, Ludwigs have a 3/8" breather hole :/ - the...

Re: Ludwig Rocker paint and decal disaster!

Thanks again for the suggestions. I think I'll try a satin poly (or matte if I can find one). It is a Minwax stain I used.

Another question - brass eyelets/grommets. I need to buy a few, but the...

Re: One of a Kind Custom Vistalite score on Ebay - Coliseum Conversion Candidate?

14x10 was actually a common size. I have had lots of Ludwig 14x10 toms. The 14x8 on the other hand is a rare beast.

Re: Ludwig Rocker paint and decal disaster!

I just don't know how to brush on varnish without making it look streaky or blobby. Can you recommend a product?

Re: Ludwig Rocker paint and decal disaster!

Question for JC: What about Tung Oil? Would that protect and also help deepen the colour a little bit?

Re: Ludwig Rocker paint and decal disaster!

Guys, I'm planning on giving the drums a thin coat of varathane when they're all done. I just couldn't wait to see them with hardware on them.

Once the entire kit is done and I've made a decision...
