Re: Pearl 70s identification

Hi Dag!

A really cool kit! Here's a link to Drumarchive.com... http://www.drumarchive.com/ It's an invaluable site, with lots of catalogs. Most are PDF and will open in your browser. Those that...

Re: Slingerland Stage Band

Very true that 22" Stage Band bass drums are uncommon! You would generally see Stage Band outfits with nothing larger than a 20" bass drum. The 12x15 floor toms showed only up through Catalog 68,...

Re: Shell type identification help

My 2006 Pearl Export EXR has 6ply all Poplar shells, which look like those in your first picture. So, yes, I'd say they are most likely poplar, rather than maple.

Thanks JC and DD! It really is a great stand and I'm only looking to recoup the money I spent on parts.

Re: Slingerland Stage Band

Slingerland's Stage Band series of drums were just like Ludwig's Club Date drums...same shells as top-of-the-line, but cost savings due to the center mounted lugs. The 12x15 floor tom is cool and was...

Re: Strange Little Pearl Kit

Only a "kid's set" in terms of sizes! This is a rare "Junior Outfit", which were cataloged without a floor tom. Looks like a special order that included the floor tom. These are definitely not...

Re: Just Ordered Mystery Cymbals...any Guesses?

Doesn't sound bad at all! It really doesn't look like a Zildjian, though. Almost like a Wuhan-style cymbal...or something similar. It's got a nice "trashy" crash sound, that I find pleasing. Overall,...

Re: Rogers Supreme Hi Hat Restoration

Some more pictures!

I used a small hi hat felt to cushion the black plastic linkage from hitting against the bottom of the stand. Look closely and you can see the stripped-out hole for the...

Hi Doug!

No, you're not being "pushy" at all! I greatly appreciate your interest in the thread, too! And, thanks for the kind words on my work!

Re: Rogers Supreme Hi Hat Restoration

I was also going to use white vinegar, but others assured me that water worked well...and it did! Just not for the deep rust on the Supreme hi hat!

Re: Would You Buy This

My issue as well! I remember this kit in the catalog. I just couldn't get over the mounted tom sizes...and those HUGE tom brackets! I've no doubt that it's a fine kit, but the sizes just won't appeal...

Re: Rogers Supreme Hi Hat Restoration

Doug!

The Big R kit will be listed for sale. Honestly, though, I've just been lazy to get it listed. I'll probably post it here and over at DFO, for local pickup only, and see what happens. Might...

Re: Rogers Supreme Hi Hat Restoration

Hi Jeff!

I didn't take any "before" pictures of the entire stand, only the lower tripod section. The upper tube was rusted, but nowhere near as bad as the lower section. It cleaned up with the...

Re: Rogers Supreme Hi Hat Restoration

Hi Kurt!

Yes...a whole lot of "Elbow Grease"!! LoLoLoLo

I couldn't save the two large wing screws, but I had spares that cleaned up really well.

As for my "adult beverage", I just finished...

Rogers Supreme Hi Hat Restoration

Hi all!

I'm sure most of you remember the 1976 Rogers Big R kit I recently restored. There was also a Supreme hi hat stand included, but the lower tripod stand portion was so badly rusted that I...

Re: 1950s Zildjian crash or ride or crash/ride.

Knowing the weight, in grams, can help to determine what this might be. Use this link to a fairly good calculator. Just enter the gram weight and inches. Not 100 percent foolproof, but fairly...

Re: Just Ordered Mystery Cymbals...any Guesses?

My gut tells me it's an inexpensive stamped brass cymbal. I hope I'm wrong!
