Re: Wrap issues on possible buy

They are kind of high but they look all original and the color looks fantastic. Those are some strong greens! It's also common to see color patterns that don't match. The colors were different from...

Re: Ludwig Psych red on reverb

Wow that's cool Kevin! Too bad you missed that one! A B/O badge one to boot. I don't think I have ever seen a B/O badge psych red club date. I actually found my 71 mod orange club date on here....

Re: 1964/1965 Ludwig set in white wrap?

My head hurts trying to figure out what exactly happened here! If these were mine I would strip off the wrap, plug extra holes(I see something funny at the front of the bass drum) and rewrap in a...

Re: What's wrong with this CL ad? :)

I agree that this is a nice price. If this set is 80's then I would guess 1980 and no later. When modular hardware was introduced around 1981 it forced Ludwig to move the badge placement on the bass...

Re: I picked this up today

I think you could easily build a set around this. It looks to be from the earlier part of 1968 like maybe march or April? New gold sparkle matches pretty well too so you might be able to build pieces...

Re: Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl 12,13,16,20

Beautiful set. This was most undoubtedly part of a rock duo set that had two bass drums. I wonder what happened to the second bass drum? I have a rock duo from 1968.

Re: Ludwig Keystone Badge headscratcher

I'm with Kevin on this one. The badge looks like the ones used on legacy classics now and the grommet looks like something Ludwig would use now. Is there any kind of sticker inside? Current Ludwig...

Re: WFL Twin Spring Speed King pedal

That is probably a late 30's pedal. WFL started making drums in 1937 and production on this pedal was halted when the war started(as was mentioned previously). After the war though WFL started up...

Re: 1939 WFL 7 x 14 WMP TWIN SENSITIVE HOLLYWOOD SWING MODEL (Cat. No. 421)

I remember that red one you have mike and it's a beautiful example. My example is funny... It probably might have been blue back in the day but it looks pretty dark green at this point. I have seen a...

Re: '69 Mod orange kit in Nashville

Pretty cool. I'm not sure if I have ever seen any other 18" mod orange floor toms from the 60's. That's a rare one!

Re: 1939 WFL 7 x 14 WMP TWIN SENSITIVE HOLLYWOOD SWING MODEL (Cat. No. 421)

Beautiful drum as always Mike. I certainly have a soft spot for those drums too. I found my Lyre badge WFL in 1993 and it is the drum that got me into WFL drums. Prior to that I was only really...

Re: 1968 Ludwig Downbeat

I'm curious about the floor tom as well. Is it stamped 1968? I've never seen a floor tom made that late with a badge in the center location. Just curious. Love seeing that canister!

Re: Extra Holes and Loss of Value

Well I will chime in and say that finding a 14x14 in champagne from the 70's will be no easy task. I'm willing to bet that if those holes were plugged off, small pieces of original wrap were used to...

Re: Where is the catch? Ludwig Psychadelic Red

Those certainly look to be original color wise. Kevin is right about the color changing as well. I have seen psych red sets that used the later version that were made all the way up to the riveted...

Re: Need ID Help With Ludwig Drums

How many pieces came with the drum set? Do you have any pics of the whole thing together? The snare is definitely a supraphonic from either late 1967 or early 1968. Sometimes snares like that will...

Re: when is a piccolo not a piccolo?

I am slowly starting to forget some of my older knowledge but I think the downbeat snare may have come out around 1959 or so. The jazz combo is the 3x13 while the downbeat is the 4x14. In 1959 they...

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple 70's Snare ID/insights

This is probably a rock concert snare from around 1980. It's probably a great sounding hard rock backbeat snare as it should have lots of power and volume. It's a six ply shell and it was mostly...

Re: Ludwig Bass Drum Question

Not only did they change the location of the bass drum badge, they left it there! It may be an option now to put it towards the front of the bass drum again but in 2012 when I ordered my classic...

Re: hi, question for my 60's ludwig vintage drumset..

Does the color match well? Sounds like a set pieced together from early to late 60's. WMP can be hard to match as far as yellowing of the finish goes.

Re: Re-wrap or real? Ludwig experts please weigh in

It certainly looks real to me. It's getting harder to tell these days. The badge looks a tad low to me but that might be where Ludwig put it that day. The grommet hole is usually centered with a...

Re: Ludwig Catalogs from the TEENS!

I think I have a reprint of a catalog from 1912. I think it was officially released by Ludwig(current Ludwig) at some point. It pre-dates the black beauty though....

Re: Ludwig Butcher Block Drums

I saw Alan play this set back in the 80's when I was in high school. They sounded great and I even got him to autograph the cover of my MD from then as well and I still have it.

Re: 60's WMP Ludwig Superclassic restoration

Does the snare have a date stamp inside? The snare's number is pretty close to the set. I'm still going to go with December 1968. I have also noticed that most of the sets I have seen from this time...
