Re: My Christmas Present

Bowing I've been saying that for years, but most younger drummers still don't seems to get it. Clapping Happy2

Re: My Christmas Present

Congratulations. Although they are refinished with non-original hardware, which will likely affect the resale value and may be a non-starter for some collectors, they are still Camco shells in great...

Re: Dino Danelli Clip: "Do You Feel It"

Having come of age in the '60's I always though he was a terrific drummer and highly underrated.

Re: If this cymbal sounds near as good as it looks...it's killer

It will definitely have a buttery, played-in feel. I wonder which sticks will get the most out of it. Interesting patina. Good find! Bowing

Re: Just Ordered Mystery Cymbals...any Guesses?

Of course you can spend your money any way you want. I was trying to understand the logic behind doing this.

I can only speak for myself of course, but I'm very particular about the sound of the...

Re: Just Ordered Mystery Cymbals...any Guesses?

My question is why you would purchase a cheap looking cymbal with no idea of its build quality or sound?. All you have to go by is a low resolution fuzzy image of a cymbal. It's probably not brass,...

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

Thanks. It makes it easier to discuss cymbals if we understand each others preferences and expectations.

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

By the way, just as a comparative reference, what rides do you like the sound of, or like to play?

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

Many jazz players, myself and my son Milestones included, prefer the sticking to be woody sounding rather than bright and pingy, and with bells that are darker and clunkier sounding rather than...

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

With jazz cymbals you generally don't want them to go dead when you're riding although some drummers do prefer dry cymbals. Usually thinner darker sounding cymbals are preferred with a clear...

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

While it is certainly not my cup of tea either I would not characterize it as horrid or anything even close to horrid. At $2500 though I can think of a lot of 20" and 22" old K's I'd rather have for...

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

Wow. Could they have hidden it any better? The 18" cymbal sounds nice but a little too washy for my taste. Its more of a crash than a ride now, IMHO. It certainly doesn't sound like a '60s A anymore.

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

The 3rd and 4th rows all appear to be re-lathed and hand hammered 60's A's I don't really care how they look, I do care how they sound though. But with no sound files I would pass. Sound files are...

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

Keep in mind Maxwell's online cymbal inventory was not 100% complete. The 22" trans stamp my son picked up at the New York store and the other 22" trans he listened to were both on consignment and...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

I can appreciate that being from down under the subject of American baseball is a major yawn to you. And of course it hijacked this thread from its original purpose which was inappropriate. However,...

Re: Slingerland/Zildjian Price Check

Interesting. I had read that Craigie had signed some cymbals but I wasn't aware that Debbie had as well. I would guess it might call for some small increase in value as a curiosity, but I really...

Re: Slingerland/Zildjian Price Check

Some of the Sound Lab Prototypes are excellent cymbals. Armand has three daughters. Craigie Zildjian is the Chairman of the Board and CEO, and her sister Debbie Zildjian is the VP of Human Resources....

Re: 1971 Ludwig... opinions?

If this is the set you want, in the right color, and seemingly in excellent condition consider how often you will see this set in this condition, and how much cheaper would it be. Even though it...

Re: Playing with calf heads

There is a tonal subtlety that calf heads produce that is different from any plastic heads. In my experience the synthetic heads that come closest to the warmth of real calf skin are the Evans '56...

Re: Playing with calf heads

I haven't used calf heads for decades, but the way we handled it back than was to only loosen the heads a bit after tightening them for a gig when it was raining or very humid. You don't want to tune...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

Or perhaps not in the hole by game 4. The Yanks just won the first game 7 to 0 on Houston's home turf. They completely dominated during the entire game. Like I said, in a short series, anything can...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

You could be right, but I started following the World series in 1953 when I was 7 years old. And after 66 world series, not to mention division and pennant races, the one immutable fact is that...
