Re: Slingerland Re-wrap opinions

In many cases the best resale value is with original wrap. Is there some issue with the original wrap?

Re: Need help Id'ing this Throw-off on my Gretsch

Yes, but the diamond cutout on the slider dates yours to '50 and newer. The inward bent snare attachment also tells us your 3-point is for use with drums without snare bridges.

Re: Need help Id'ing this Throw-off on my Gretsch

The strainer on the snare looks to be a 50's Slingerland 3-point.

Re: New slingerland??

No, not DW. It's an early 2000's import "music yo" snare from the Gibson ownership period.

Re: 1954 Slingerland Radio King Snare Drum

Badge is '50 - '53.
Lugs and hoops are '55 or later.
Strainer is '56 or later.
Lug fasteners are '57 or later.
The large spread of years would seem to eliminate the possibility of a...

Re: 1954 Slingerland Radio King Snare Drum

Dan, how did you arrive at a 1954 date? Lugs and hoops are post '54 and lug fasteners are late 50's/early 60's.

Nice. Serial 46xxx puts this one squarely into '64.

Re: BOP Ludwig Jazz Fest serial number

Per Rick Gier's Ludwig serial dating guide 80xxx would be expected for approx. later '64. This serial is also in the range where many drums are reported to lack date stamps.

Re: Slingerland Concert King

No. Capri pearl came first and was followed by Mardi Gras.

Capri Pearl shows up in the '59 and '60 catalogs. I don't have access to a '58 or '61 catalog. I believe Capri was cataloged in '58...

Re: Slingerland Concert King

allandwf, what date stamp range do your 'capri' drums have? I've seen '58 stamped 'capri' drums. Mark's '64 example is certainly interesting.

Re: What year are these Slingerland drums?

leedybdp, the serial reset in early/mid 1970 and the three different badge types used in 1970 help narrow down your drums nicely. Per Dr. CJ Wenk, Black/brass badges of the 60's continued in use...

Re: What year are these Slingerland drums?

We have discussed this before. The black/silver badges preclude these drums from being any earlier than 1970. Per Dr. CJ Wenk that badge was used from '70 - '72. Serials 19xxx would be expected...

Re: BR "flat-base" cymbal stand on eBay

While it is true that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" let's not forget the business practices employed by these stencil companies; to make money selling an inferior product that 'looked...

Re: BR "flat-base" cymbal stand on eBay

Nice work Mark. Great details. A lot of the MIJ kits were made to deceive and on quick glance they can.

Re: BR "flat-base" cymbal stand on eBay

skins, the tilter is NOT Slingerland. Look at yours then look at the one in the add. That alone refutes his claim of 'all original'.

Re: Slingerland Stage Band

Mark, Slingerland floor tom legs and mounts per Dr. CJ Wenk:

'58-'65= straight legs with push buttons
'66-early '68= straight legs with 'T' wing screw
early '68-up=angled legs with 'T' wing...

Re: Slingerland Stage Band

Angled legs are correct for a 70's floor tom. Your offer for that floor tom is more than fair. You are likely to be 'upside down' on that tom once you replace the non-original/bad parts and do a...

Re: Humble Collection of Old A, Italian, and misc.

If the price marking is original it may be a clue to the year of the cymbal. Price in '61 catalog is $38.00. Price in '63 & '64 catalogs is $42.00. Price in '65 & '67 catalogs is $46.00.

Re: Need Opinions on Slingerland Snare

Tough call, I don't see the classic Slingerland thin, thick, thin 3-ply layup. This may be a 2-ply shell. Per Slingerland historian Dr CJ Wenk the lighter 2-ply shell was commonly used on...

Re: Need Opinions on Slingerland Snare

That particular cloud badge was used primarily on marching and 'juvenile' drums. Is that a 3-ply shell?
