Re: Gretsch RB, what heads are you using?

It depends on whether the finish is natural wood or a pearl covering. The extra ply of plastic makes it tough to fit heads. Ive had some luck with natural skin heads. Either Kentville or Bovid are...

Re: Type IV old K Istanbuls

Re: Type IV old K Istanbuls

Sounds a bit in the neighborhood of Jon Christensen or maybe even Joe Chambers.

Re: New 20 inch BD heads won't fit on Gretsch BD?

Vintage round badge? There are a couple of possible solutions but others here may be better at detailing. One I believe is the Aquarian American Vintage heads ( not moden vintage though).

Re: Playing (preying) on the nostalgia factor........

You’re assuming somebody has the time, skill and desire to do all of The research, hunting and drum building labor. There is a lot of time and skill there and it is worth something.

Re: Evans 360 uv1

Im a UV1 fan also. I had them all the way around my main gigging kit until I went to all natural skin (mainly Kentville Kangaroo). The are very durable and consistent. The sound doesn't seem to...

Re: North East Legion Slingerland Snare

I was thinking North East, Pa. Interesting name since it really is in the north western part of Pennsylvania. But it does sit on the shore of north east Lake Erie which makes for a particularly...

Re: What are the rarest Slingerland wraps/finishes from th 60's-70's?

All of the late 70’s veneer finishes are rare. I have rosewood oil veneer on my kit and I've only seen a handful of the rosewood, some lacquer, some oil, since I got them.

Re: Over the Years Bosphorus vs Istanbul cymbals.

I’ve been more inclined toward Bosphorus. I had a couple of pre split Istanbul which were just too heavy for me. When I first encountered Bosphorus I thought, “These are exactly what Ive been...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

Coming back to this after a few days I thought I would clarify as I don't mean to be evasive or nasty! Your comment about some of the drummers who I revere most (Shelly Manne, Elvin, Tony) surprised...

Re: Type I,II,III old K s

Re: DW Buys Slingerland Name

Opinions are opinions but the fact of the matter is that a lot of professional touring drummers use DW. They sound great, tune up well, have functional sturdy hardware, look fantastic and Im sure...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

They have a focused sound with a natural muting effect. They don’t ring as much. They tune well high or low and seem to sound good even if you aren’t super careful with tuning them. They are...

Re: Calling on Slingerland Experts

This was a single tension marching snare. The tension rods went from one claw to another grabbing the two wooden hoops so no lugs were needed. You can see examples of this all over the internet and...
