Re: Gretsch RB, what heads are you using?

I don't have oversize drums but do have two Gretsch snare drums. I have been using the Aquarian American Vintage medium weight batter heads on all my drum set drums. Instead of a thin American...

Re: Lowrider Snare Stand

I made a low snare stand for a Firchie snare drum from the base of a cheap throne that had very large rubber feet. The feet did not open very wide at all so the result was a short bottom portion. ...

Re: Identify Bass Pedal

The footboard looks to me like it was taken from a Rogers Swiv-O-Matic. Can't tell much about the rest of the pedal. It is similar to the attached photo but not the exact same footboard.

Re: help with notation

No problem, glad to help solve the mystery. The Morello books were written when the rudiment list was shorter (26) and you can do a Google search on the National Association of Rudimental Drumming...

Re: help with notation

I had the good fortune to see a Joe Morello clinic when I was in high school and have not looked at his books in years but I think I can help with your question. The dots above the notes are...

Re: Carl F Ludwig Rope Tension snare drum?

Good Morning, William F. Ludwig's brother was Theobald (sometimes called Theo, or Ted) and he died from a sales call on a government drum contract in the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918. This is a very...

Re: Gretsch/W&A? Hi hat clutch-how to use this??

I have several of these Walberg and Auge high hat clutches on old high hat stands. I don't have one in front of me but I don't think it is missing any parts, the wing nut should tighten the cymbal...

Re: UFIP ictus 75 TAMPANG gong/cymbal

There was a nice article on Andrea in the May 2013 issue of Drum magazine by Gino Robair ("Plugged In - The Hybrid Orchestral Percussionist", page 85). It mentions Andrea working for UFIP in 1974 and...

Re: UFIP ictus 75 TAMPANG gong/cymbal

If I remember correctly (becoming rarer as I age) the Ictus products were a collaboration between UFIP and a wonderful Italian percussionist named Andrea Centazzo. He tells the story in his book...

Re: Happy bday shelly

I have always wondered what Shelly thought of the "mis-print" on his name on some of the Leedy high hat stands. I personally think he would have got a kick out of it. Note to drum companies: Check...

Re: Happy bday shelly

Shelly's wife, Florence (Flip) donated a lot of his drum and percussion gear to the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) and it is part of their museum called Rhythm Center in Indianapolis. I don't know if...

Re: Is Anyone Still Using This Forum?

I check in on a daily basis and usually learn something. I think it will take a while before postings get back to the "old" days... This is the best forum I frequent by the way. What was that old...

Re: Rogers BOP kit

I have a friend who makes rope tension drums and he buys small diameter drum heads such as your 18" all the time with special larger size flesh hoops that work better as bass drum heads. He also...

Re: Leedy Project Begins

I have never heard of "clown barf" before, but I think it would be appropriate for some of the drums I have seen, including some new drums. Maybe one of the more honest drum companies (?) will use...

Wow, This group is a brain trust. Thanks so much for the help. I guess I am too quick to assign that shade of blue to Sonor and Trixon. I will have to look into the Deri brand. If it is not too...

Help identifying bass drum pedal

Hello,
This appears to me to be either an early Sonor or Trixon bass drum pedal. It came without a beater and the leather strap was broken from age and dryness. I replaced the strap and added (and...

Re: Need recommendation for a set of drum silencers

I don't think of them as mufflers, but I have been very happy using Sabian quiet tone mutes for teaching and quieter practice. They don't do anything for bass drums or cymbals. I have two 14" pads...

Re: 17" Tenor to Bass drum conversion

A drum partner in crime of mine used to make rope tensioned drums and he bought raw unglued wooden hoops in various sizes from Cooperman Fifes and Drums in Vermont. They have changed ownership...
