Re: Conversation starter - Ringo with WMP

The Ringo Premier DuroPlast or whatever that root beer swirl was called is a high demand-short supply drum set. I would love to have a set of them.

Re: Would you trade?

On this, we can agree all the way. Am I correct in thinking that the DW drum set has the small lugs instead of the more desirable larger turret lugs?

Re: Help please--paper tags, and what model is my Rogers?

Let's quit the nit-picking. You want a drum set to be exactly as it's pictured in a catalog with maybe a different wrap. Even though the manufacturer clearly states (maybe in small print) that other...

Re: Would you trade?

I can be impartial because I don't like DWs or Vistalites. Go with your gut. As others have stated, you can always buy another DW set. But, if the Vstalites are in top collectors' shape, Do it.

Re: Help please--paper tags, and what model is my Rogers?

O-Lugs is certainly entitled to his opinion even if he contradicts his initial pronouncement in the second sentence of each paragraph. I will politely disagree with him because I'm one of the many...

Re: Help please--paper tags, and what model is my Rogers?

I'm not saying that there were not names for drum outfits (sets). What I'm saying is that many drummers bought new drum sets for which they specified the drum sizes and mounting hardware rather than...

Re: Help please--paper tags, and what model is my Rogers?

You want a name for your configuration. May I suggest Buford?
Drums could be ordered in the sizes a person wanted, and configured any way the person wanted.

Re: Opinions: Hawthorne Drum Shop

The younger generations may be under the mistaken belief that the Japanese-made drums from the 1950's and 1960's are as good as the current Japanese-made drums. SURPRISE!

Re: This is the Display Your John Grey Drums Thread

I owned this Turquoise Sparkle John Grey set for a year or so before trading it to a collector in Dallas who had dozens of drum sets. I don't remember the year of manufacture for this set. I also...

Re: Older Asian-made drums in this forum section

To be allowed to call a product--any product--made in America, a certain percentage of the labor, parts, and assembly must be made or performed in this country. Final assembly of major components...

Can you carefully reverse the overlap and put the damaged edge under the undamaged edge?

Re: Older Asian-made drums in this forum section

Thanks, Tommy. It just really irks me--always has to see the Asian-made drums included in a forum section such as this one. I will show my bias by stating that it really doesn't annoy me to see the...

Older Asian-made drums in this forum section

I might be considered an elitist by some other forum members. So, if that's what you want to call me, I'll proudly wear that label. Lately, this section of the forum is getting a lot of posts showing...

Re: Would you buy it?

Good for you, Mark. Are you going to use a wrap that was available in 1965 or have some fun with a new wrap that appeals to you?

Re: Would you buy it?

A pox upon the person who removed the badges. That person probably made a good deal of money by selling them to some Ludwig nut who wanted a "collectible" drum set. I think that this cannibalism...

Yogi Berra Explains Jazz: He made a lot of sense when you consider that Yogi spoke in jazz. When I first read this, I kept hearing in my head some Thelonious Monk and Dizzy Gillespie improvisations. ...

Re: Hello......Is This Thing Working?

I think that some folks who use this forum would appreciate a sub-section for vintage drums made in countries other than the USA and Japan. In general, I am very happy to spend much time in my...

Re: Show Off Your Silver Sparkle

Can we ever show off our drums too much? Maybe, if I sold or traded away yesterday's drums for today's drums that I sold or traded away tomorrow for different drums, I wouldn't post pictures of the...

Re: Show Off Your Silver Sparkle

We have cousins with very similar fade. My Top Hat set has labels that date the drums to 1966. The 1966 Luxor snare is just a tiny bit lighter in color. The lighting and paint color of the room make...

Re: Show Off Your Silver Sparkle

Do you know what year(s) the drums were made? My Silver Sparkle Rogers from 1966 are a darker shade of silver. Maybe they're aged with a a little bit of darkening occurring.

I can't argue with your reasoning. Good luck. My intense dislike for Vistalites colored my opinion.
