Re: Ingenuity in Vintage Land

So, a little extra nudge from the pliers couldn't hurt
, eh?

Re: Ingenuity in Vintage Land

If one set of the lugs or swivel nuts is reverse-threaded, it makes sense that the tension rods with reverse-direction threads would be tightened in one direction to hold the two shells together....

Re: President set tiger eye

I almost pulled the trigger on this drum set that is located about thirty miles from my house. Then, I remembered that i really don't like the feel and sound of stencil brand drums from this period....

Re: The 14x14 Remains Highly Sought

The 12x15 marching drums are bargain priced floor toms just waiting to be completed. Similar sized marching tenor drums are even more special because they don't have the extra holes for the snare...

Re: Ingenuity in Vintage Land

That's a pretty good deal for those drums. I think that the lugs and threaded rods holding the two blue drums together can stay locked in place with locking nuts at each end. Should we assume that...

Re: Repairing a Camco Aristocrat Strainer.

Thanks, Dolfan. I think that the strainer did have that trapezoid-shaped cover plate. I don't recall ever having problems with the snare drum hardware.

Re: Repairing a Camco Aristocrat Strainer.

If my mid 60s Aristocrat snare drum did not have the round strainer housing as the one on DolFan's drum, what might have been the factory-installed strainer?

Re: Chicago Drum Show 2021

Irrespective of our drum sickness, BEC is expressing rational and sensible thinking about this drum show or any social gathering at this stage of the pandemic.

Re: Repairing a Camco Aristocrat Strainer.

The only Camco drum in my collection has the simplest throw off that is one of the most reliable to use. I can't remember if my set of Aristocrats in the mid-1960s had that round throw off housing on...

Re: This is the Post a Picture of Your Drum Instructor Thread

I am forever grateful to a great man, James Dycus. Mr. Dycus was the instrumental music teacher at Thomas A. Edison School in Hammond, Indiana. I lived two blocks from Edison and attended school...

Re: Rogers Dynasonic Black Onyx Variations

The wrap on the drum in the foreground appears to be aged/yellowed while the one in the background appears to be brighter and not aged. Could the wraps be from different makers? Could the colors vary...

Re: This is the Display Your Rewrapped Vintage Drums Thread

Several hours of jamming in a small room with Cousin Kinky could yellow those drums in a hurry.

Re: This is the Display Your Rewrapped Vintage Drums Thread

I have rehabbed and re-wrapped a few drum sets over the past several years. Here are a few of them. I made a drum set out of orphan Slingerland and Ludwig drums that I re-wrapped in an assortment of...

Re: Oyster Blue

And, the Top hat and cane pattern does not repeat? Pick all of the nits that you want to pick. To you same nitpickers, a rewrap with an exact duplication of the original wrap is still an unforgivable...

Re: Re 70's Ludwig Supraphonic w/silver badge

Another possibility is that this was an indicator of drums that were deemed to be factory "seconds". Unless there is someone, who worked on the production line when these drums were made who can...

Re: Ludwig "UFO" black molded snare case question

Maybe a snare stand with a shorter top tube was the standard issue with the kit? Perhaps the stand with the kit was a lighter weight single-braced stand a la this? You could also circumcise about a...

Re: Re 70's Ludwig Supraphonic w/silver badge

That "use what we have... just ship the stuff" policy was not unique to Ludwig. Fender and Gibson collectors and other assorted self-proclaimed authorities have argued forever about the authenticity...
