The British used a drum as a military signaling device very effectively. I'm not sure they had to patent anything used as military hardware.

Your drum is flying the original Royal Navy colors and design on the hoops. Today, the pattern is the same but it's red and white now. That drum is first generation Royal Navy.

The K is far better sounding to my ears. Brighter stick and sharper bell. Small wash and goes dead quicker.

You would be kinda right. I do prefer the heaviest I can find. I know I would crack thin any cymbals in time. Keyhole them too. I'm used to them.

Did you notice that those heavies are twice the cost of those beloved thin things ?

Heavies have a sound of there own when you play them heavy. I would seek heaviest K's because K's don't wash...
