Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

Buddy Rich didn't like anything other than what he played and others who played similar music, I've even heard him cut down classical music. However, I was surprised to hear him say in an interview...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

I get it, your an Evans guy, never liked them, Remo all day and everyday.
Those bop drummers did a lot of improvising, music isn't just about making someone want to dance. I've been playing in r&r...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

That's the first time I'd seen negative comments about all those drummers you mentioned, they were some of the best in the world.
And what's up with the coated Ambassador's on toms comment? I could...

Re: My Christmas Present

I have no problem with my tom on the rail mount. It's sounds great just the way it is, but thanks.

Re: My Christmas Present

They're not easy to find and they're pricey, even re-wrapped kits are bringing close to 2 grand.

Re: My Christmas Present

I've used snare stands for ease of setup or if the rail mount was not holding at gigs. Some kits didn't even have a rail, so I had to use a snare stand, I will not hang a vintage tom off a cymbal...

Re: My Christmas Present

I doubt your doing anything wrong, I've also had toms that had more resonance when off the mount, that's one reason I'd choose to use a snare stand to hold the tom. For whatever reason, I don't have...

Re: My Christmas Present

Hey Nick, no, it does not choke the tom, it sounds like it should. In fact my Gretscherland kit has the same type of mount and it sounds great too. Maybe it's your head selection or tuning. I use...

Doug Clifford

I was watching a 1970 concert with CCR at The Royal Albert Hall and I never realized what a great drummer Doug Clifford is. I mean I'd heard the records, but never payed much attention to his...

Re: My Christmas Present

For what it's worth, here's my unofficial review of the kit.
They reminded me of a rb Gretsch kit I had, although the Gretsch had bigger drums, the sound and feel is very similar. I have the kit...

Re: Mexican Made PDP Drums

I not only read the first sentence, but the whole OP. Where do we draw the line? Taiwan made Gretsch, Ludwig, Rogers? Maybe it should had at least been posted in the non-USA drums section.

Re: Mexican Made PDP Drums

Am I the only one here that thinks having a discussion about pdp drums would be more suited on the Tama or Pearl forums?
It's like having a discussion about Pete Best in a forum dedicated to the...

Re: My Christmas Present

I was talking to my wife about this last night. I haven't spent this much on a kit in a long time, I suppose to some spending $1,400 is no big deal, but I'm a pretty much a cheap skate.LoLoLoLo
I've...

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple Drums

The modular hardware wasn't all that bad, it's lighter than it looks, I could position the toms fairly easily and it didn't choke the drums.

Re: My Christmas Present

Ya, I know about those guys and it usually doesn't bother me because I'm not a collector. I think Camco falls under a different umbrella than the other American companies. I think it's more about the...

Re: My Christmas Present

Whenever I hear one refer to someone elses kit as a "Player's Kit" it's meant as some sort of cut down. But I'm sure that's not what you meant. All kits are players kits, I don't buy drums to look at...

That's exactly why I sold them, I was getting no bites here or on cl, so I took them to Music-Go Round, they gave me $550 and I didn't have to ship.Cool1
