Re: I'm moving!!

Yes, but from the other side. We made an offer on a house, but our offer was contingent on selling our current house. Another buyer walked in with cash! They took the other offer of course. Who...

Re: So a Drummer Walks Into a Restaurant...

Thanks for the praise, fellas. It works really well. Another feature that I didn’t even think about is that it is simple to just lift the drum off the riser to tune, move, or put it in a case.

Re: So a Drummer Walks Into a Restaurant...

I had a piece of 3/16" thick rubber laying around, so I epoxied the snot out of it to the hinge. Hopefully you can see it in the photo.

Not sure what you mean about the 'head thing.' I sized the...

So a Drummer Walks Into a Restaurant...

My 60's rock band often plays at restaurants, so I need to be able to play quietly enough that the patrons can carry on conversations at their tables. It's a tall order, but since they are paying us...

Re: Questions on Staining 70s Ludwigs

If you are happy with the results, that’s all that matters. Sorry if I put a negative spin on my reply. They are your drums. Do what makes you happy!

Re: Questions on Staining 70s Ludwigs

Jeff from JCCabinets will probably have more detail than I will, but the fact is, stain will highlight any plug or patch. The fact that fillers say that they are "stainable" doesn't mean that they...

Re: Why Play Vintage?

”Is it the sound of vintage drums, the nostalgia, the look, maybe you like restoring and fixing, the cool factor? Or something else?”

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. I sold my Mapex Saturns to buy a...

Re: How Do You Play? Matched or Traditional Grip?

I learned “The Right Way.” Back in the day, playing matched was called “skin beating.” Played traditional grip until my brief laying off (about 34 years). Came back to playing matched grip. It just...

Re: Price shaming

Mr. Bug,
You have succinctly described the major reason my wife and I ditched facebook. I know that as a businessman, facebook can be an effective tool. But since we don’t have a business, we...

Re: 1971 Ludwig... opinions?

Warrenwood, you're going to like the sound of those incoming Ludwigs. Like you, I have a 1960's Slingerland, which I love. Great mahogany sound. But I also like the sound of my 1970 Ludwigs with the...

That is a high price, but those drums do look pretty dang stinkin’ clean! Like K.O. said, if it makes you happy...

Re: Magical Mystery Stand-hardware question

Nah, I probably did the same thing you did - Google “Double Conga Stand” and see what pops. Saw a Gon Bops that was similar.

Or... I am the magnificent Carnac. In my magical and borderline...

Re: Looking for Atlas Stands

Well now, you just struck a sore spot. I won the auction and promptly paid on Oct 6. Here it is, the ending of the 10th, and I haven’t heard ‘boo’ from the seller. Paid $49 plus tax and shipping...

Re: Looking for Atlas Stands

I would not want the newer ones with the tubular legs and the big ol’ snow boots on them.

First choice would be the early flat-legged one, but I’d consider the lunar-module looking swivel feet!

Re: Tension rods, cleaning, rust, soaking

If you don’t like the idea of running the tension rods through a tap, a gentler method is to use a 1/4” drive socket extension to drive a tension rod partially coated in a cleaner (I use Flitz...

Re: Looking for Atlas Stands

Blairndrums,
I have purchased the hi hat (from Mark) and just won the bidding on a snare stand on ebay, but thanks for answering up.

I am still looking for a straight cymbal stand.

Couldn’t tell you a brand, but it looks like a stand for a pair of congas. Old Gonbops?

I just got my 1970 Ludwig Set shipped to me Friday. I spent a few hours dismantling them, shining them up with Novus 1 & 2, then reassembled them. All of the brightwork was already perfect. I tuned...
