Re: John Bonham during first four minutes of Stairway To Heaven

Hey, Richie... You and I are certainly not alone with that opinion. For a long tune, Bye Bye Miss American Pie is ten times less boring.

Re: John Bonham during first four minutes of Stairway To Heaven

You really know you are old if you can't deal with some clown trying to age shame you. Those of us with a lot of mileage on our odometers didn't rack up those miles by being hesitant to deal with...

Re: Blue vista ss

Seems like someone's skin isn't thin in this thread. It's obviously brittle
plastic. (I'm not referring to you, Jaghog. I think that you possess a mind that processes humor.)

Re: Blue vista ss

Apparently you really are humor-impaired. What a horrible way to go through life.
How about a cruise to China for you?

Re: Blue vista ss

Hey, putz. it was your mama's Yugo. Yes... That's a juvenile insult. It is befitting for a slow-witted humor-impaired person such as you.

Re: Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste

Zigaboo is still going strong for a man of his age (born in 1948). Every so often, he will play a gig with the other surviving members of the Meters.

Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste

it's Mardi Gras time again. This makes me think of one of the most imitated drummers of all time. Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste originated the funk groove that most of us have tried like hell to imitate...

Re: Bop/Jazz Kits

I made this Bop drum set from orphan drums. The 7x11 tom is Leedy from sometime before World War Two. The Floor tom is a 12x16 Leedy marching tenor drum from the 1950s. The bass drum is made from an...

Re: This is the Display Your Slingerland Drums Thread

I bought this little drum set several years ago from a guy who lived way out in the country outside of Fort Worth, Texas. According to serial numbers, the drums were probably made in 1970. He just...

Re: Tuning key fitment on an 1978 SS

Some vintage hoop flanges get in the way of a thick-barrelled or long-barrelled drum key. What you need for that vintage drum is a vintage or vintage style drum key. The 1950s and 1960s drum keys...

Re: Interesting CL Ad In NJ

I would consider getting that Sllingerland set and remove the offending Ludwig parts to, either return Slingerland parts or replace with generic parts. But, I'm in downsizing mode.

Would that be one of the older wraps that were made from acetate?

Re: Why Play Vintage?

Just substitute a brand new 1961 Black Diamond Pearl set of Rogers Holiday drums and new A. Zildjian cymbals, and I share the exact same set of fond memories.

Re: Why Play Vintage?

Tom mounts from the late 1950s and the 1960s are still copied by most drum manufacturers. The ball and socket Swivomatic mounts designed by Joe Thompson at Rogers were revolutionary. That basic...

Re: Why Play Vintage?

I can only say for sure why I prefer vintage mid-twentieth century American-made drums from a few brands. Let's start off with the fact that I played Slingerland, Rogers, and Camco drums for many...

Re: 1958 or 1959 Ludwig 6.5x14 - Contest or Auditorium Model?

Some people would opt for the pearl wrap because they know that a painted or "natural" wood shell in their possession would get gouges, abrasions, ans scratches on the outer ply.

Re: Rarest of the pearls

Before the Japanese drum maker hijacked the word "pearl" for their brand name, the word was synonymous with drum wraps made of various types of plastic. Back in the 1950s, when I started loving...

Re: Rarest of the pearls

I like the uncommon wraps used by Slingerland, Leedy, Rogers, Gretsch, and Walberg & Auge. I currently have a Pink Glass Glitter--not champagne--Leedy Shelly Manne snare drum and a Purple Diamond...
