Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

I always liked Gretsch. Bought a square badge kit in the 90s, which I expanded on, just in time to do a brief stint with a Stones cover band a few years ago. I like them even more now. The original...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Ludwig Drums

I have a vintage Ludwig drumset, 3-ply. I like it. Sits happily among my other drumsets. I do play it every now and then. I prefer others.

Ludwig snares? Totally different story. Most of my...

Re: This Is The Least Active Forum Ever

I check in every so often. I lurk a bit. I really do enjoy the knowledgeable members of this forum, and if I think I have something to contribute, I do so.

I can definitely think of places less...

Re: Tama Superstar

I think $600 is a good deal. Those power tom sizes might make for difficult tom positioning, but I have owned Superstars for 31 years(in that finish) and they are bulletproof.

Re: Is Sabian Serious with this new logo?

I am totally baffled by their new, hideous logo and their feeble attempt at being edgy on their website. It's like a 50+ year-old's idea of what "cool" is(I'm 51, mind!), and comes off as hip as the...

Re: Lots and Lots of Drums

The Premier kits that he refers to as Genista are not Genista. Strangely, the kit that looks like it might be a real Genista is listed as BLK/GLD.

Re: Purdie and The Beatles

This comes up on DFO all the time. It's right up there with conspiracy theorists and Paul Is Dead wackos, the people who see Occam's Razor and run the other way. It's been around since the late 70's,...

Re: Premier Artist Heritage Club kit

I got mine used in 2000, after considering the Pearl Rhythm Traveler. After I saw the very basic construction of the Pearl, when I saw the Premier I flipped. Double-headed toms! Sparkle lacquer...

Re: ABBA - (lack of) cymbals

That was his third album, the one with "Intruder", "Biko", and "Games Without Frontiers". Not a cymbal to be found on the whole LP. Not Phil, not Jerry Marotta, nada.

It's funny when you consider...

Re: Are Yamaha Drums Good?

I have owned Yamaha RC's since 1986, an Oak Custom kit since '10, along with various others like the Peter Erskine 4x14 birch piccolo and an MCA 22" kick. I think Yamaha(Sakae) has made some of the...

Re: Who's gonna snag this up? NOS COB

I posted this same drum over on DFO when it was for sale by someone else....for 85 bucks and no takers. If I didn't already have 2 of these(50+ altogether) I would have gone for it.

Re: NV / Do Concert Toms resonate? J-M Video w/Bermuda

Sounds like tons of attack. I used to have 5 ply Slingerland concert toms, part of a "Country Rock" setup, and I was surprised at how deep and nice they sounded outside.

Did the weather allow for...

Re: MIJ Stencils use by Professionals

I'm pretty sure that Tom Scholz of Boston had an affinity for MIJ stuff. On the inside cover of Third Stage he mentions "Off-Brand drums with Zildjian overhead". Unfortunately, it doesn't get more...

Re: Fair price for a 70's Black Beauty?

That used to be my impression, and indeed that has been written many places. However, Jeff Ocheltree has mentioned that he used one on some tracks on In Through The Out Door.

Re: Best bassdrum head for 22*14 3ply Ludwig....Studio and Live!

Plenty of attack AND depth. I get nothing but compliments on the sound. people can't believe the power of that 20" kick. Black Dot and Ludwig logo head on the front.

What I don't really...

Re: Best bassdrum head for 22*14 3ply Ludwig....Studio and Live!

I have a CS Black Dot on my 3-ply 70's Ludwig bass drums (20 and 22). The 20 sounded choked with a PS3 but sang like a bird with the Black Dot.

It was NOT a small difference, and so I didn't even...

Pearl 5x14 COB snare, sometimes called "Jupiter"

Looking for a clean, players example of this drum. I am looking for the non-parallel throw version, which I understand makes it technically not a Jupiter.

Let me know if you have one for sale or...

Re: Snapped my Speed King

I snapped the exact same thing, around 1988. Ticked me off. I thought that was a ridiculous place for the pedal to break. Lost my faith in the SK.

Bought DW 5000 pedals.......

Never looked...
