Re: 1971 Ludwig... opinions?

I missed an opportunity to own a pointy badge Black Cortex Jazzette shellpack back in the day. I think it went for a little over a thousand...Might even be a picture of it around here somewhere...

Re: Playing with calf heads

The tone of calfskins can be mimicked by new synthetics.....BUt you will never find any other type of heads that feel and play like calfskins. They are so spongy and buttery! No finger strain at all!

Re: 1971 Ludwig... opinions?

You bet it's worth it after reading the reason why you want it. You can't put a price on "that feeling" when you have something that generates it whenever you see it. Will it retain it's monetary...

Re: Question on a 20x18 Ludwig F.T.

The drum looks legit to me. That era of Ludwig was often sloppy. I can't tell the size but I doubt it's 18 X 20. The edge...? Who knows? The re-ring width appears to be correct so I'd say if the edge...

Re: Does it have to match?

For playing, no. For DISplaying, yes.

Example: I have a red sparkle Downbeat kit with a red sparkle Downbeat snare...I love the bass drum and toms, but I never liked the Downbeat snare to play....

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

Yes, I understand that this seller come across as somewhat "special" and I don't want the focus to be on that person-or any particular individual example. What I'm now talking about is the idea of...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

Yeah, maybe...but it's nobody else's business if it does/doesn't sell.

The whole point isn't that kit or any kit, in particular. It's a matter of who is in control of their own stuff. If anyone...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

Well, this is a discussion forum, not a private email account. By its very design, people come here with the given understanding that their threads are an invitation for responses...and/or advice....

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

And just imagine this..."What if" the seller were to come here looking for advice and found comments like those? This isn't polite at all. So whether you are polite in your email to the sellers in...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

You know....When did it get decided that Fender guitars were going to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars? They certainly weren't intended for that fate when they were made. But someone,...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

Okay then it was a matter of seller and interested buyer working out a price...which is as it should be. But when someone who isn't even interested in buying the item goes to the trouble to contact...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

This whole thing about pricing....Just a few weeks ago, a Gladstone snare drum with the original stand came up for sale and was priced at $85K....remember that? What happened? Anyone know? I don't...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

Who determines what decent/indecent means here? Ebay? Craig's List? Who is the council that decides what's fair? Drum Forums? HA!

I think the suckers are the sellers who let someone else decide...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

Didn't the listing, itself, indicate that the seller was ignorant of Rogers drums? You know, sometimes, the internet "community" seems a lot like the Spanish Inquisition.

Monty Python Spanish...

Re: Another High Priced Vintage Kit For Sale

I agree with the idea that it's odd that anyone should care what someone else asks for their stuff in a sale. Too much? Don't buy it!

This is all stuff that you can't buy UNLESS someone is...

Re: eBay listing that infuriates me!

^^^I agree. It IS cool. It's just a matter of time and continuing technological advancements before robots and computers become the next stage in our evolution. And, at that point, things like Bonham...

Re: eBay listing that infuriates me!

Yeah I don't know....It's hard to gauge intrinsic value. I'm not referring to the kit for sale....rather an unmolested version of said kit. But it really depends on how long the legend of Bonham...

Re: We lost an icon today. Ginger Baker

I never thought he'd last this long. I think it was just his crotchety-ness that kept him going.
He was my first, BIG influence at rock drumming. The first album I ever bought was "Disraeli Gears"...

Re: eBay listing that infuriates me!

Probably rather close to what the seller is asking. The value in these types of drum sets isn't in the drums, themselves. The value is in the association to the drummer who played them. Having said...

Re: eBay listing that infuriates me!

Re: eBay listing that infuriates me!

It's VERY likely his wishful thinking about pricing that kit (which he seems to care about more than his son does)....But it IS his business what he does. It doesn't hurt to shake your head in...

Re: Vintage Ludwig 3-ply, 12x18 Bop!
