Re: John Bonham Setup

I've ambiguous what kit was used for the first album. The two most popular theories are that he either used the Slingerland kit that was rented for the Scandinavian tour, or he used a back line kit...

Re: Different camps of drum fanciers

I've got a Radio King kit, a Gretsch kit, and a 90's Premier Signia kit. Different kits for different moods. Like my kids, I love them all equally and for different reasons

Re: Ludwig Tom Mount Question

No evidence of the center hole ever being used from the inside of the shell either. The diamond bracket has a plate for the inside and there are no marks other than the diamond shaped shadow on the...

Re: Ludwig Tom Mount Question

No no, a common 1960ís Atlas bracket would use the existing bottom hole and require the one extra hole in the center.

Thanks everyone. The tom is from 1964, just around the time they were phasing...

Ludwig Tom Mount Question

Hi folks, I picked up a Ludwig Tom a while ago and just now getting around to cleaning it up. The drum came with a diamond rail mount bracket. When I removed it I found that there was also another...

Re: Playing (preying) on the nostalgia factor........

Many people prefer a brand new reissue over a 50 year old drum or kit because it's still got the vintage vibe but it's brand new, glistens under the lights, and all the parts work correctly. No need...

Re: How will live music performance change in the (near) future?

So anyway, yeah this sucks. I'm a divorced dad, and spent most of my boys' childhoods working full time and spending most of my off time being involved in their lives as possible, so music took a...

Re: How will live music performance change in the (near) future?

It will all come back. We're all gun shy right now because it's still so prevalent. I think once the infection rate drops and the pandemic stops dominating the nightly news every night, we'll start...

Re: Sonor Snare - Do they hold their value?

Sonor used to be called the "Rolls of drums." They are definitely a top quality brand and SQ2 is their high end series. That said, the SQ2 has been in production for well over ten years now, so...

Re: Premier vintage 60s/70s

There's a fantastic looking Resonator set on CL in the Boston area. And that's one fine looking 8x14 10-lug snare. The pictures aren't great, and there's no price - just "best REASONABLE offer" -...

Re: Beater Kit

You're too good for this kit. This is meant for a beginner to bang on in the basement.

Re: Age

I've read in other forums that the "vintage" drum era is generally accepted to have ended in the early 80's when US manufacturing regulations put a stranglehold on the Big 4, causing several changes...

Re: 27 Piece Ludwig Kit

The OP is obviously not a drummer, and most likely selling as part of an estate sale. I would recommend to provide good quality pictures on the general forum and ask the very knowledgeable people...

Re: Premier XPK

These are APK's. APK's have wrapped Meranti shells, whereas XPK's have Meranti shells with a lacquered birch outer layer. Not pro level, but a decent kit for the money.

Re: Performance Disaster

I was playing in a country rock band 20-odd years ago. One night we had a very light gig for an elderly singles dance in a very hot American Legion hall with no AC. Dave, our bass player sees a...

Re: In your opinion why did Bonham start playing vistalites?

Probably many people behind that decision, such as the Ludwig reps wanting to showcase their new product, as well as the company that produced Zeppelin's stage show. Vistas are visually pleasing...

Re: Nobody has brought this up yet huh? All of Gene's stuff?

Great podcast. I had the pleasure of doing some business with Brooks last year. A real gentleman and by far the most knowledgeable person of all things Slingerland that I've ever come across. I...

Re: Buying advice: Slingerland Radio King

Extra holes, non-original parts, wrap imperfections, and dented hoops? Personally, I'd go $300 max or walk away. You can find better drums than that.
