Re: Original Paiste Giant Beat sizes available 60's-70's?

Sorry but that is incorrect, Aussie. Kenney's 26" Paiste was a 602 (most likely an Arbiter Custom 602) not a Giant Beat.

They did not make a 26" original Giant Beat.

14" and 15" Hats
18",...

Re: Original 60's Paiste Giant Beat wax coating?

my understanding is Paiste started coating the cymbals in 1972. If your GB is a preserial then it won't have the coating.

Re: How to date Black Label Paiste 2002 Cymbals

Another giveaway is the Hi Hat text stamped on the top of the cymbals. This was added in late 1978 or early 1979. Prior to the that the stamping was just SE Top or SE Bottom

Re: Paiste Stanople-Swiss Made

Ludwig Standards are very similar to Paiste Stambuls but with better lathing (imho)
They were made in both Ns12 and later in B8

The Stanople was made by Paiste for Ludwig and is very similar to...

Re: Paiste 1000 series

There were two different Paiste 1000 lines and it is important to be clear about which one is talking about

The standard green label 1000s which also came as Rude. These were midline type cymbals....

Re: Paiste People ??

The Stambul in the catalog is referring to the location of K Zildjian at the time. It is not referencing the Paiste cymbal line.

The cymbal pictured is from the 50s and is Paiste Stambul China...

Re: Small vs. Large (modern) holes on Cymbals

I believe it was in 1958. That is when the stands starting going to the 8mm tilter posts meaning a bigger hole size was needed.

Re: Paiste black label 505 nos score

Black Label 505s were around from 1978 to early 1981

The 1974 date start date for this line is one of the common Paiste historical errors that are unfortunately all over the internet.

404 and...

Re: Ludwig Standard Cymbal

Both factories made the Ludwig Standard during the late 50s and 60s.

That chart on NF Drums has a lot of erroneous info regarding on what was being done in each factory.

Re: Zilko, what have I bought

Hey Bart,

the Zilko was a brass cymbal made by Paiste from 1947 to 1958/9

If it has Switzerland on it, it was made in 1957 or early 1958

If it does not have Switzerland on it, it was made...

Re: Paiste 2002 black label mediums/Tony william's K Zildjian 22 ride.

Yes they made 17" and 19" (and 21") Black Label Mediums.

They came out in late 1978 or early 1979, so they were only made for the last 2 or so years of the Black Label era which is why there...

Re: Charlie Watts - Paiste and Supra?

The China looks like it has a black Paiste logo which means it's a Sound Creation Dark China. An 18" or 20" - probably an 18".

The big cymbal by his FT looks like it might be his old 20" Giant...

Re: Black Label Paiste 2002's

The 2002 Bell, Splash, Heavy Ride, Heavy Hats and Flat Ride did not come out until 1975. They were not part of the original release in 1971.

Nor were the 17", 19" and 21" sizes. Those didn't come...

Re: How to date Black Label Paiste 2002 Cymbals

Steve, looks like 1975 was the last year of "Other Countries Pending" on the SE Patent Stamp.

Found an early 1976 pair of 2002s without the additional text, same goes for 1977.

Re: How to date Black Label Paiste 2002 Cymbals

Here is a pic of the 4 Country patent stamp this was used right around 1970 maybe into 1971.

The six country stamp definitely comes into use by 1972 as I found it stamped on a pair of SE with a...

Re: How to date Black Label Paiste 2002 Cymbals

I think there most likely was a phase in 602 where they stamped "PAISTE" over the bell before the two-line stamped was introduced. As the first 2002s w/o serials have this one-line stamp chances are...
