Re: WTB ludwig Jazz-Fest shell

If two appear - I could use one as well - don't care about extra holes.

Sell the good one to mgtcnut

Re: 60's MIJ Stewart Set Gold Glass Glitter

There is a guy on FB selling the matching snare for this - but he is unwilling to ship. Illinois somewhere.

Re: Lido Supreme...just a Lido with sour cream?

That turned out great! The only thing that could make this thread better is more pics including closer-up views.
That was very smart to color match the head with the wrap.
I too have one of...

Re: New Bearing Edges for MIJ

I might be the odd man out - but I believe this advice (that this thread concludes) applies to ALL drums regardless of what make. Why not give it a chance to perform the way that the designer...

Re: Cool little Japanese outfit

Yeah that's made by Hoshino. Shells are thicker, no rings. The lug inserts are held in my little tabs that slide in - and they are made of metal - much like modern ones that are made of plastic. I...

Re: If this cymbal sounds near as good as it looks...it's killer

Hummmm I would think the response would be quite cushy, soft, and it would likely sound real warm.

Re: New Guy With New MIJ Kit

Hi JimmySticks. Welcome to the world of vintage drums - and the continent of vintage MIJ drums! This segment of vintage drums has grown tremendously in the last 5 years or so. The MIJ kits are...

Re: Here's A Nice MIJ Set Priced Right

Yes, I believe Kenny would take the title as the King of Vintage MIJ.
More importantly, I am glad that he and the seller (of the kit in question in this thread) have come to a better understanding...

Re: Lido Supreme...just a Lido with sour cream?

Flaky Supra drive me crazy. I just decided to enjoy Acros instead.
My vote would be do sell that Supra. Since it is Keystone, you will recoup most of your investment here.
As a matter of fact,...

Mystery bongos

I think I might have a bit of a stumper here.

Slotted tension rods.

Teardrop type lugs. I am not going to automatically conclude Sonor though, not identical to their teardrops I don't think...

Re: MIJ Wrap Finishes-Let's Rank 'Em-Popular To Rare

Measure the BD shell depth. Is it a 15 incher? I have a Pearl made kit similar - BD shell is 15, not 14.

Re: Keyholed Scimitars. What to do???

Yeah - round it out (repair) and/ or use a grombal.

I will add this though - I used that exact cymbal on a CD I recorded in 1994, and listening to it, you would never guess it was such a cheap...

Re: Snare Manufacturer "VIBRATION"

Sorry Dave Drums - my mailbix is full, can't get messages until I find time to clean it out.

At the time, there were three major drum manufacturers in Japan. In the analogy of the "Big 3" of the...

Re: Snare Manufacturer "VIBRATION"

Yeah, that's a Chrysler all the way!
I hope you have not use steel wool on that snare. It will scratch up and indeed make it dull.
Green bottle of Turtle Wax Rust Remover/Chrome Polisher - with a...

Re: Vintage Pearl Snare

Pearl did not stop making the re-rings until 67 or 68. So, I would depend more heavily on the dating of the badge, while filtering through this shell construction dating.
Indeed very rare to find a...

Re: new MIJ snares

Loving those!

When it comes to how they sound - IMHO the thicker the shell the better.

I have a Star made thick shell (Luan of course) and I can't believe how good it sounds. I am putting it...

Re: I can't resist a nice sparkling pearl MIJ kit

So what is the FT? Thin or thick? Rings or not?

I believe the tom is Hoshino.

Re: Hoshino Drum Spurs

I used to say that Hoshino is the 3rd of the big three in vintage MIJ. Perhaps AMC would be a better analogy?
I see they tried to model the Rogers lugs. I wonder if these are as solid as they look. ...

Has anyone reviewed these for the forums (thread)?

Never heard of ChromaCast. Affiliated with anyone else? Look like Tama or Yamaha.

Hey MIJ fans - you need one of these

If you consider yourself an MIJ fan and do not have one of these - you should snag this up. These are GREAT sounding snares - with an adjustable butt (you can see it in the pic, and these are hard to...
