What's up with head prices going through the roof?

Greetings,

I stopped into a Guitar Center (I know, I know, it's the only option I had) because I needed to pick up a 14" Coated Ambassador for a snare drum. It rang up as $22.99! For a 14"...

Re: Ludwig Standard

That's an after market tom mount. Although it's a Ludwig, the Standard mounts followed the same diamond hole pattern, but the were closer together and the tube acceptor was 5/8", the currently...

Smooth White Coated Head?

I saw this on a (new, not used) Pearl Piccolo Snare (the flat black steel one) at my local GC. Could it have been the stock head?

It seemed like a normal coated head to me. It wasn't smooth...

Re: Does it have to match?

I agree with vintagemore2000, the sound does matter the most.

However, if the wrap or finish is rare or just "cool", I do think a matching snare is better.

Re: Another Ludwig Standard on CL

One other thing to keep in mind about Standards:

The tom holder is not "Standard" (pun intended). It's a 5/8" down tube while the typical Ludwig stuff is 1". The 5/8" down tube Standard mounts...

Polishing/Sealing Brass Snare Shells

I just picked up a nice Pacific (early run) hammered brass snare. It is in good shape, but I want to polish it to make it shine.

Is Brasso the best polish to use, or are there...

Re: My 18 ft

K.O. is correct. You can covert it without doing any modifications.

Gibraltar also offers the Dunnett conversion kit, which consists of two spurs (that go in the existing leg brackets), a lifter...

Re: Drum Poll....Kits looks good, bad?????

I voted above.

While it's not really my cup of tea, I think it's cool solely because depending on the lighting, you could have 10 different drum kits in one!

Re-wrapping Tip on Seams

Many of you may know about this and perhaps do this yourselves, but I found a quick and cheap trick on re-wrapping, when it comes to reinforcing seams: Paint Stirrers!

They are free...

Re: Help with wrap color

Welcome to the MIJ world!

Ludwig's "Standard" series had a similar wrap called "Blue Strata", but I'm not sure if that lingo was also used on MIJ Drums at the time.

Re: MIJ No Name Drums

That sure is a mish-mash of parts. American ingenuity strikes again with that tom holder!

I see three different lug types, Ludwig copy (or real), Slingerland copy and the generic "Pearl style"...

Re: Painted Luddy restoration finally done :-)

Fantastic Job! Looks like a brand new set!

I know the painted shells were a giant pain in your rear..........but they probably prevented the wrap from being faded/yellowed and kept them from...

What's with Acrolite (and Blackrolite) prices?

I know these have steadily gone up over the past few years, but some of these prices are out of control.

My local Guitar Center has one for $249, just a standard B/O Badge in good condition.

I...
