Re: Vintage ends

Once again, I'll state that "vintage" is a rather meaningless term to categorize drums as to their collectibility or desirability. I prefer to delineate the categories of drums or many other things...

Re: Rogers tom mount question

OK. I concur with the general opinion that the placements of the mounts were where the original owner wanted them to be. That was part of the beauty of Swivomatic era Rogers drums. When I ordered my...

Re: Help ID and price: 20" Slingerland bass

I think that a quick $150 plus actual shipping charges would be correct for this drum. The Set-O-Matic mount plate should cost $50-$70. The double tom mount for the plate is more plentiful than the...

Re: Fibes Drums

Excuse me please. Did I read your post correctly? I think that you'll get a lot of disagreement for speaking negatively about the Rogers hardware that revolutionized and modernized the drum industry....

Re: Does Changing Era-correct Hardware Constitute a " Modification"?

If you replace a part with the same exact part that is in better condition, that should not be considered a modification. Many vintage drums that we own have replacements of the original hoops, tom...

Re: Slingerland tuning help

I think that johnnyringo is on the right track. I bristle when people on drum forums bash the designers of drums that were made before the bashers were born. Those vintage drums were designed to be...

Re: Ludwig Sound

I don't know how Ludwig has survived for all of these years with me not ever considering buying a Ludwig set as one of the many new drum sets I've bought since 1957. Happy holidays to all from me and...

Re: A bold prediction about Ludwig.......

The height of hypocrisy is when the "no replica" crap is spewed by a die hard Les Paul player.

Re: A bold prediction about Ludwig.......

I appreciate and agree with your cynicism. Having been part the supply chain in the musical instrument business, I witnessed what you predict many times. There is also the reverse of this that meets...

Re: Vintage drum costs

Slingerland and SlingerLeedy mid 1960's drums are my all time favorites. I have never had a single problem with the construction, the fit, the finish of any of the many drum sets and snare drums of...

Re: Decisions Decisions

Too bad that you don't include a 1960's clean and all original vintage Slingerland or Leedy or Walberg & Auge or Rogers in the equation. In my opinion, every one of those four brands would be...

Re: Slingerland Trade

I'm a Slingerland enthusiast and not fond of Ludwig drums. However, I prefer wrapped drums much more than unwrapped drums. Having said that, I would still opt for the Slingies.

Re: Flat Jacks Anyone?

When properly headed and tweaked, that snare drum will crack like a bull whip. I gigged with a Flat Jacks set in the mid 1960's. We played loud Rock n Roll.

Re: Back In The Vintage Game... Slingy Style

Beautiful drum set, and a wise choice of brand and sizes. It's pretty difficult to play press rolls on the snare drum when you drape a tea towel on it, isn't it? I think that this drum set cries out...

Re: What are these? Vintage, world, classroom/music ed?

They look to be generic tom tom type drums for rhythm band use.

Re: 1961 Slingerland? Help needed

You did well. The guy who bought the drums knew what he was getting, paid a fair price, and knows how to rehab them. Congratulations.

Re: Slingerland Info Sought

If you can find chromed carriage bolts, drop them in to the extra holes. It will look like some of the European drums (Sonor, etc.) that used them to mount their overly large tom mounts.

Re: 1961 Slingerland? Help needed

If I had the two toms and the bass drum at a bargain basement price, I would put period original tom mounting hardware back on the small tom and bass drum. It looks to me that the replacement...

Re: Slingerland Info Sought

This old timer has gigged with several drum sets configured with two 8x12" toms mounted on the bass drum--mostly Slingerland. I've also gigged with a Camco set that had two 9x13" toms mounted on the...
