Re: Star King Beat Wood Shell

That shell looks to be of modern manufacture to me. Rerings on old drums are usually solid not plies. But I could be mistaken...

Re: Tinitus

My tinnitus can be traced back to a single night. Practicing in a basement the harmonica player stood in front of the speaker. INCREDIBLY LOUD feedback, enough to blow both horn drivers. $150 worth of...

Revere drums (Kent)

The restoration/refurbishing of the Revere/Kent set is 90% complete. I'm going to invent a part to mate a clip mount to the standard ratcheting tom arm rather than use a hoop mount, which I don't have...

Kent/Revere foil badges

I am looking for 3 shield style "Revere" foil badges for my recently restored blue sparkle set. The only intact badge is the snare drum's. I'd heard that Kent foil badges were repopped. Maybe...

Re: Repairing a Sonor Phonic pedal?

I'm quite sure this would be a standard metric bearing that can be purchased from a machine parts and equipment supplier. In the US we have McMaster-Carr. Those are very smooth action pedals-I would...

Re: Questions about this Majestic Snare????

There seems to be a period in the early 70's where Star was all over the place building this that and the other thing. A snare with faux "Sound King" lugs when their main production was the...

50's sparkle wrap/Novus?

I'm knee-deep into a 50's Revere-Kent restoration.Severe ply separation, wrap separation and easily the WORST edges I've ever seen on any drum. Literally just table-saw edges. The ply separation is...

Re: Is this REALLY a Pearl Drum?

Yes it is a Pearl-built snare. Pearl "Sound King" knockoff lugs have the squared off base. Could be one of dozens of stencil brands using Pearl as their source company.

Re: Let's talk swivel nuts!

I would replace them with 12/24 if there were a lot of missing tension rods. I had to do that with an oddball Yamaha 80's set with fine threaded rods, all the bottoms were missing. Should have just...

Re: "Drum Shop" drums...

So here is the completed project. It does not have real Tama hardware. The hoops are not Pearl. This may be entirely MIT knockoff.I had to replace every lug attaching bolt as they were held on with...

"Drum Shop" drums...

I am in the process of restoring/recovering a set of MIT's marketed by Donn Carr Drum Studio in Peabody,Mass. The drums shells are typical late 70's early 80's thick luan. The hardware, however is why...

Re: Trouble With Tinnitus

I have light to moderate tinnitus. It is my understanding via many Y/T videos that it is the brain trying to make up for certain frequencies that are missing from your full-spectrum hearing. And...

Re: Thread adapters on 1/4" short threads for cymbal tilters

I recently posted an inquiry on this exact subject-looking for 6MM cymbal sleeves. I hate it when the washer/sleeve/felt makes the cymbal go crooked...HATE IT. I must be OCD...

Re: Pearl "EXR" Granite Sparkle 16" FT

Yes- I got a swatch of wrap from Precision and it"s a few shades darker. I may just buy it and live with it as I have had no luck locating a FT.

Re: CitriStrip fail-learn from Dean

I used Mostenbacher's grafitti remover on a gold sparkle 60's Slingerland set painted with black enamel. Very tedious work but no wrap damage besides a little gloss flattening. It could probably be...

Pearl "EXR" Granite Sparkle 16" FT

Looking for a Pearl floor tom in Granite sparkle. I think other Pearl lines had this wrap-Visions etc.Other brands from this era (2000's) may have this wrap I'd consider.

Re: Early Pearl Export drums

This is quite interesting. I'd never seen an Export set with straight spurs or a ten-lug bass drum. Is this a European sourced set? I use a mixed-Pearl set to play out consisting of an 80's Export...

I sent for a swatch from the fabric company you used to recover an 18" CB floor tom in galaxy sparkle. How did you attach it to the shell?

Re: Snare Drum Tuning

I think those notes would vary with the depth and composition of the shell, head type, brand, rim type etc. A "High" tuning on an 8 X 14 will be lower than a 3 X 14. How about...Don Henley's snare=low...

Re: CB700 Watch Lugs

Maybe they borrowed the lug design, but the Tama/Camco joint venture did not last. I have seen a lot of CB 700's from this period, and own some.I hope you have the tom arms...they are hard to come by....
