Re: Original WMP bought new at plant

I would say to break it up into two sets and try to sell the single-headed concert toms separately.

I wish you luck, but I think you're going to have an extremely hard time selling that as a full...

Re: Sabian, not Dream!

Typical. The only people who like China cymbals are other drummers. You shouldn't let band members dictate what you can and can't use. You don't tell him what bass or amp to play, so you?

Re: NDD: New Drumset Day

I'm looking at them now. The white satin flame looks great. I have never had a satin flame set in all my years. The older ones are always beat up, it seems.

I have to get the bass drum dampened...

Re: NDD: New Drumset Day

Just for the record, the Gretsch and Slingerland sets were sold this past weekend, and I picked up the Tama kit today. He still has the gold Ludwig Standards for sale.

Re: NDD: New Drumset Day

Don't kid yourself. I can tell you with confidence that Gretsch quality control was not always spot on. Old Gretsch guitars for instance, were simply not that well made to start with. Today, most of...

Re: NDD: New Drumset Day

It is a beautiful set, but the tom shells are just a fraction too big and fitting heads is difficult, according to the seller. The bass drum shell is in turn, a bit too small, so heads swim on it....

Re: Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste

I love Zig's playing and always have, from the time I saw The Meters at the Bottom LIne in NYC. Killer player. We're friends on FB.

Re: Bop/Jazz Kits

Although some people think bop sets with 18" bass drums are cool, and I get that, they make no sense for me and the music I play. I see nothing cool about them whatsoever.

I have a little Mapex...

Re: NDD: New Drumset Day

Thanks. The seller does all his own work, and he's a very meticulous guy and very soft spoken and perhaps shy. I could tell yesterday when I went to his house. I asked him if he wanted to recover and...

Re: NDD: New Drumset Day

Jim, that Slingerland set is awesome. I played it. The drums sound incredible. The 12x15 floor tom is a cannon and the bass drum is killer.

NDD: New Drumset Day

I pulled the trigger on these Tamas that were put up for sale last week by a guy I know here in NJ. $260. He cut down the rack toms to 8x12 and 9x13 and recovered the set in white satin flame. I...

Re: Sabian, not Dream!

I have a Tosco/Sabian china I bought cheap a short while ago and it's just too pretty sounding to be an effective cymbal for me. It's refined. That's a better word. I want a china that will explode...

Re: Sabian, not Dream!

It sounds like one of those "in yer face" China cymbals that band mates of mine would complain about. At one point, I had something like twelve Chinas, but recently sold over half of them to one...

Re: Interesting CL Ad In NJ

Jim, he has relisted each kit separately. They're all still available as far as I know. I just got a text this morning from the seller.

Re: 60's Original Gretsch Round Badge 18" 12" 14" + snare in WMP.

Excuse me for saying this, but that's $10,800 in US currency at this moment, in my opinion, an exorbitant amount of money for those drums, regardless of the rarity of the left hand setup. Add the...

Re: Interesting CL Ad In NJ

I contacted the seller and thanked him for posting an intelligent, good looking ad. It turns out I have met this guy before and he's a good dude. I'm going to look the drums over one day this week....

Re: Interesting CL Ad In NJ

I would buy that Tama kit for $280 in a heartbeat. They look great, and with the right heads and proper tuning, will sound perfectly acceptable and usable. I just don't need more drums!

Update: I...

Interesting CL Ad In NJ

I came across this CL ad this morning here in NJ. Four vintage kits, all modded, but decent prices, I think, if anyone is interested. The Gretsches look particularly nice.

Re: Dream Cymbals?

Yes, I do. Look for more Kashian cymbals! They weren't bad at all. Certainly the Italian cymbals back then were the best and most reasonably priced alternative to Zildjians. I remember my drum...

That would be cool. Go to www.thekootz.com and sign up for the mailing list. You'll get a weekly email telling you where we are playing. At the moment, I only have an Impression ride, but have two...

Re: I Want to Play Better

I know how it feels. After over fifty years behind the kit, I can't do all the stuff I wish I could do. I can't execute blinding single stroke rolls, for instance. That's why I've accepted...

Re: 1968 Ludwig Mod Orange Hollywood Set

How did a post from five years ago get resurrected like this? Soap Box

Those drums are long gone, and maybe sold more than once or twice since then.

It's OK, JR. That guy is now on my permanent ignore list.

Have you considered getting with a good teacher and working on the things you mentioned to help you achieve your goals? It may be hard to...
