Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Yes, in a recording situation, ANYTHING goes. The studio can be another instrument, itself -especially these days with sampling and digital stuff....no more 2" tapes on a Studer...or at least very...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

There was a drum sound test I remember someone doing a few years ago, where they took the same drums and tunings and had several different players come in and play them. Even though the drums were...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Yeah, the marcher was the only one with any appreciable difference. Most of them sounded very similar....and if you weren't hearing them in that context, then you'd likely not be able to...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Acrolites are just awesome! They are everything a snare drum should be. They sound great. They sound like a snare drum! Ludwig was just so superior in terms of doing business back then, they flooded...

Re: Where NOS Kits End Up

Cool kit. I'm not partial to WMP, but I love Rogers Swivomatic hardware. Rogers was clearly the most innovative company of the old "Big Four".

The famous NOS story that I remember is the Gretsch...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

If it wasn't for The Who destroying instruments and going ape onstage, then we'd probably not be in this mess we are in today......Those damn kids and their rebelliousness! Someone should have told...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

I'm saying that if guitarists can do it (good players or posers), then drummers should be able to as well. But, instead, we just expect every other drummer to be our ol' chum or "brother"....which is...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Sure, in many case, you almost can't give away some pianos because people who want to get rid of one don't want to pay to have it moved...

..BUT...Fazioli, Boesendorfer, Bluthner, C Bechstein,...

Re: Do You Need an Extra Drum Throne?

Not bad for under 20 sucks...ugly as sin, though (imo)....but, hey, if it's functional and you dig it...

I'll be curious to read more after you try it out.

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Yes, we would all likely choose a pristine real vintage kit if that was a viable option all of the time. I agree, though, that part of the fun of getting a pristine matched vintage kit is finding it....

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

If the company isn't going to put out the old swan leg stands and hardware package options the way that they used to, then it's a waste of time, in my opinion. No one is looking for any vintage style...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

That was my total point of bringing up the Craviotto kit...or a custom DW kit....and probably a few others.

I totally agree that it makes no sense to buy a reissue -IF you can procure a pristine,...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Nice kit for sure! I'm not partial to WMP, but that looks like a very pretty kit. I just noticed the floor tom legs on the new kits, too...DO NOT LIKE!

Oh...wait...the swan leg cymbal stands don't come with the kit? Ok.....too much money, then.

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Show me a matched Rogers kit on Reverb in a cool retro finish with all the matching hardware. I'd like to see it.

It's a high price to pay, no doubt, but I assume Steve Maxwell knows his audience...

Re: Maybe Covington Will Come Back

Some people just want the next best thing to a time capsule vintage kit. These days, it's almost a given that any vintage kit that comes up for sale will have some kind of issue....because all the...

Oh....I didn't see the limitation in your initial post, but yeah I forgot that those drums were foreign. It just popped into my mind because of a recent thread that someone made about the egg shaped...

Re: Evans Hydraulic Coated Batter Heads

I think they make most conventional drums sound dead. I remember when Evans released the blue hydraulic heads back in the 70's. My friend had a blue Vistalite 5-piece kit and he had to have them....

Re: Ludwig 12,14,20

Yeah the drums aren't nearly nice enough to spend another minute on, anyway. $500 was more than fair for a bunch of orphans.-2 cents and a cup of coffee...
