Re: Nickel over brass-polishing recipe?

I always use a buffing wheel on nickel with a little rubbing compound. You need to be careful not to take the nickel off but it is far better than simple polishing. See attached from my own 38...

Re: Any Boston Fans?

Saw Boston around 78 or 79 in London so possibly saw this kit then. What a phenomenal band they were. Utterly blew me away.

Re: 1971 Ludwig Set Has Arrived!

Nothing wrong with hoop mounted spurs. I love these ones from DW which I have on my Slingerland 24". Drum came with no holes so wanted to keep it that way!

20's 5X14 Ludwig Super Sensitive Dual

Stripped, cleaned and polished. 100% original drum other than heads. Now fitted with Evans Calftone '56, it sounds amazing. With no damping, there are very few overtones - just a really pure...

Re: Ludwig Super Sensitive

Thanks for clarifying. Just complicate matters further, there is also the New Era model where apparently the snares are under the batter head but also on top of the snare head (e.g. inside the...

Re: Ludwig Super Sensitive

Thanks for the comment. The bottom hoop is stamped 'Super Sensitive'. Not sure what the differentiation was from a 'Super Ludwig'.

Ludwig Super Sensitive

For more years than I care to remember I have been looking for a 1920s Ludwig Super Sensitive snare. One of those with the lovely heavy 2-piece shells. Over that period I have seen several come and...

Re: Can you please date this Ludwig & Ludwig drum?

Out of interest is this snare (pictured) likely to be a 2-piece soldered shell. It's hard to tell from the photo.

Re: Can you please date this Ludwig & Ludwig drum?

Hi and thanks very much for the helpful reply. Obviously the drum is newer than I thought which might also explain its condition.

Re: Old Man Rant: Something I hope never happens to drums.

Never heard the term 'reliced' before. In the furniture world, the term 'distressed' is typically used.

Can you please date this Ludwig & Ludwig drum?

Hi. I've owned this drum for a while but would be interested if anyone could date it for me? It's not the heavy 2-piece shell version so I assume that it's later, maybe the 1930s?

It's in great...

Re: Zildjian cymbal ID

Iíve had a good look at the decal and Iím pretty certain thereís no reg mark after the N. I have however located a small round factory stamp (see attached photo) but no serial number that I can see.

Zildjian cymbal ID

Hi. I’m in the process of selling my 22” Zildjian ride but have always been curious about the exact model. Has a large very faded 'K' on the top side but it doesn't look like any 'K' I've seen. Can...

Re: This is the Display Your Leedy Drums Thread

Saw this thread and thought I"d post a photo of my 'new' 1938 WMP Leedy Parallel which I received last week in the mail from the US. It's my wife's gift to me for our 28th wedding anniversary! ...

Re: Shipping a Ludwig 'Bonham"sized kit to Australia.

Hi. I often buy drums from the US and ship to New Zealand and costs do vary significantly. I just bought a Leedy snare and it worked out around NZ$130 plus a further NZ$195 on import duty & GST....

Re: Badge

Hi and thanks for your reply. It's a 15" x 12" parade snare which I'm converting into a floor tom. Not much point adding a photo as it's just a bare shell with no wrap.

Re: Badge

Unfortunately two of your links are to the wrong badge and the third includes the rest of the drum for nearly $1k which I don't need. Thanks for your time anyway.

Badge

Does anyone have a badge like this they'd like to sell me for my project Slingerland marching snare/floor tom conversion? And maybe some beaver tail lugs, hoops, legs and damper? Thanks

Re: The cost of restoring our vintage drums!

I still shudder when I think of my first proper drum project when I bought a blue sparkle Pioneer snare shell and then bought lugs, hoops, strainer, damper oh and heads all separately. I suspect that...

Re: Leedy heater query

The purpose of the heater was to warm the calf heads and prevent them from absorbing moisture from the atmosphere which in turn caused them to lose tension. You'll sometimes see some old drums with...
