Re: Sonor Teardrop 2

Nice looking kit, Johnny Ringo. -some very unique-to-the-brand kinds of things...has almost a Trixon kind of Jetsons vibe to it....albeit much higher quality than Trixon...but just sayin' that's the...

Re: Rogers "Butterfly" Wing screw sizes?

Yes, back in the day, Americans were making things that were designed to be repairable if need be. You could usually get any replacement nut or bolt from the corner hardware store. None of this...

Re: Case Recommendation for my Vintage Acrolite

Honestly, I WISH the old Humes and Berg fibre cases were still available. They were jussssst enough protection without going overboard.

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

Can you detect any "curling" up of the edge of the wrap along its seam? That era was notorious for seams curling up due to the way the wrap and the glue interacted with each other.

I can't see ANY...

Re: Playing (preying) on the nostalgia factor........

Meh...Since you asked for opinions...It's all about the real vs. the new and improved. One big difference is that what Ludwig used to do, they don't do the same way anymore. So, no matter what you...

Re: Ludwig Ghost pedal

I've only had ONE pedal that's never given me a problem and that's the good old DW 5000 chain drive. Granted, I prefer the feel of other pedals more than the DW (like the SpeedKing), but the DW was...

Re: Ludwig Ghost pedal

I thought they had a great feel....but I had a friend who had one and it basically exploded one day. If you don't know exactly how to rebuild one, then it's not a practical pedal to gig with. I'd...

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

Wow...well I'm going to defer to someone else to chime in on this one. To me, the grommets look okay, but the edges and the wrap (especially the floor tom) seem really sketchy. Again, that is an era...

Re: My Finished Marching Drum Kit

There was a band back in the day called The Romantics...I think they had a hit single "Talking in your Sleep"...your kit kinda reminds me of this:

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

Interesting...I think the shells look a little short according to the tape measure. It would be better to measure the shell by itself without the rims attached....but I'm getting the suspicion they...

Re: Ludwig Black Galaxy School Festival

WOW! That drum sold for a grand?!?!?!? WOWOWOWOW! That wrap may be rare, but that particular drum is really in poor condition if you ask me. But hey, to each his own!

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

You're more than welcome...but keep us posted as to whatever you find out because I'm curious now if the wrap is original or new. Thanks.

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

I looked but couldn't find where to buy the guide...saw his website and looked around a bit. I should probably take some time and contribute my drum badge information to him.

I don't remember the...

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

LOL! Great! Yes, I'd like to get a copy. I always went by this website's resources for those numbers before, but I forgot that there are some inaccuracies. I hope there is a way to correct the...

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

Also...just thought of it...Drums of this era had a particular tendency to have some lifting/curling up at the wrap seam due to the type of glue that was used. I'd like to take a look at the wrap...

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

Just FYI...I had a Deluxe Classic with pointy badges and no serial numbers for the 13 and 22 and the 16 had a number (can't reference it anymore) that traced to be from 1976. All of the shells were...

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

Again...in MY mind, I see an almost flawless green sparkle finish, beautiful black paint on the wood hoops...almost as if it's been sitting in a hermetically sealed room....BUT...the tom mount on the...

Re: help identify the snare drum

Looks like a luan shell....which would lead me to think it's a Made In Japan (MIJ) drum...likely made in the Star or Pearl factory back in the 70's. But I don't know what to think about this e lug...

Re: Help Identifying this Ludwig

I dunno, man...My spider senses are up on this one....I think it might be a re-wrap. The original green sparkle wrap almost always faded...This kit just seems too consistently unfaded. And the...

Re: Rogers Butcher Block

Actually, I see that some of the Rogers T-rods are replaced with Ludwigs...With that in mind, I'd need to see more pictures. Maybe the kit isn't as nice as I thought.

Re: Rogers Butcher Block

Ummmmm....THREE-ply shells? Really? I had an early Big R set with grey interiors and I think they were 5-ply Keller shells....definitely not 3-ply, though. Did they switch to 3-ply shells later?

Re: Slingerland Cordova

I wonder what wrapping a drum in leatherette (or whatever that Cordova finish really is) does to the resonant qualities of the wood shell. It seems like it's a relatively soft material that would act...
