Re: Big Fat Snare Drum Heads?

I ALWAYS use one of these with my Ludwig Coliseum snare to deaden the ringing. I should just put an Aquarian Studio X head on it. They are my new ( last 5 years ) favorite head.

Re: Big Fat Snare Drum Heads?

My wife has been making these for me out of old worn out snare heads for the last 40 years or so. They work great when you have a snare that rings too much for the occasion.
I am interested in the...

My wife just found me a nice tee shirt with "Never underestimate an Old Man with a drum set"

I turned 67 last week.

Re: Is this an early 60's Ludwig Acrolite?

Yea it looks like my 1965, with the exception of the throw-off and muffler. It looks pretty clean. I like the raw aluminum over the coated shells. There is a picture of mine in my snare drum album.

Re: Ludwig WMP

I got my Club Dates almost free. A friend of mine wanted to donate them to his church group where they would get destroyed. The bass drum and floor tom legs had disappeared over time and he asked...

Re: Is This A Solid Shell Drum?

It looks cool and sounds good. That's a score.

I am rather envious of the engraved top hoop. My Slingy doesn't have that.

Re: Drum hardware storage suggestions

That is an idea that hadn't occurred to me, but I do something similar.
I wanted to chip in with this photo of some PVC pipe used to store a ham radio antenna. Note the caps on the ends that I...

Re: Drum hardware storage suggestions

I have an old friend with some really old drums and hardware that is really clean.
He had his stuff in trap cases, but he wrapped all of his stands in towels before putting them in the trap case. He...

Re: 1928-29 ludwig & ludwig marble pearl family

That is a beautiful drum!

What does it say on the bottom rim as shown in the 3rd photo?

It looks like Supra - something.

Re: Need recommendation for a set of drum silencers

I have been using the Evans pads for years for practicing the set quietly. They cost under $10 per drum and are pretty durable, about 1/4" thick.

Re: This is the Display Your Vintage Bass Pedal Thread

These are the oldest pedals in the house. The one on the left is probably the oldest.
The one on the right is cool in that the thinger hanging off to the right is a cymbal klanger.
The cymbal, in...

Re: Ludwig snare 15x6,5 serial number: 7463 - Identification

I think that is a "Auditorium" snare. I picked up one of those years ago for a silly price, cleaned it up and sold it for a nice profit, but of course now I wish I had kept it.

You can't have...

Re: DIY Snare Drum Display/Storage Rack

That's really nice!
It looks sturdier and holds a lot more drums than the ProLine. I can only get 8 on my ProLine. There are already some snares around the house that don't fit, not counting the...

Re: Metal polishing products?

I have been using SimiChrome for cleaning lugs, rims and other small-ish parts. Haven't tried it on an entire shell.
I found it at the Harley-Davidson store.

Re: Orions..or Saturns?

I have the original Saturns from the last century. Maple and basswood instead of walnut. Really big sounding with lots of sustain like Wayne said. Mine came with oil filled heads back in the day. ...

Re: 1971 Ludwig... opinions?

Those are similar in price and condition to the last set I bought. If they are as clean as they look and they are what you want I would go for it. Maybe I am wrong but really clean vintage sets are...

Re: Beatles Q

I'm looking at the covering on the bass drum near the back hoop of the bass drum. In the enlarged picture the covering looks like it might be fabric.
Am I imagining that?

Those are awesome! I don't see any fading or yellowing. I need another WMP set.

Re: '66 Ludwig Student Festival

Is that a 14: or 15"? I found a 15" at a yard sale for really cheap. It seemed like it was originally lacquer finished. I just sanded it down and relaquered it.

It's long gone. After seeing...

I gave them to a friend that was a bigger Metallica fan than I was. The green tape disappeared several years ago.

Re: 1920's Ludwig snare?

I have one that looks similar, but doesn't have the Ludwig stamp on the shell. Mine just has "Ludwig Universal" lightly engraved on the top rim.
Nickle over brass, I pegged mine at 1923-ish, yours...
