Re: Type II Trans stamp

Old 22 A's that thin will require some finesse and a light touch to get the optimum sound. Definition and clarity will max out at a lower volume than he might be used to. Obviously hitting it harder...

Re: Type II Trans stamp

Wow that's thin. I have two 22 in the 22-2400 range. That one must be pretty sweet. Congrats.

Re: '66 Ludwig Student Festival

Decided to restore the '66 School Festival players drum. New to me, I first refinished it to enhance the Mahogany, next had Stan at Pro Drum do the edges back to the original soft round overs. This...

Re: '66 Ludwig Student Festival

Thanks Mike. This drum has none of the original hoops. Maybe I'll put brass on it. Should probably just break down and get something original. I had a beautiful 6.5 all original pre-serial Auditorium...

Re: '66 Ludwig Student Festival

Well I took this School Festival apart and have conclusive (I think) proof that this drum was originally wrapped. There is evidence of the badge having been removed or loosened and being glued back...

Re: '66 Ludwig Student Festival

You're right vm2000. Thanks.
Edges are in great shape and no sign or the badge being messed with.
NO plans to rewrap this drum. If anything a light varnish.

'66 Ludwig Student Festival

Just purchased this 6.5 players drum. A '66 SCHOOL Festival. It has the original throw off and BB muffler. The hoops are not original. Serial number (331191) places it as a 1966.

As you can see...

Re: K. Zildjian Constantinople...the worlds most sought after cymbals

Bill, sorry I'm so late to responding to your amazing discovery here. The fact that you were able to track this down and find the identity of the percussionist E.F.G. who once owned these piatti is...

Re: Bop Conversion Decision

Really depends on the music you play and if a 16 BD will work. I happen to love the two that I have. I you do the conversion go ahead and get some wood BD hoops and forget the riser. It's not...

Re: The Future Of Collecting Vintage Drums?

I know more that a few young professional drummers in town that play older kits (50's-60's mostly) because of the perceived sound and vibe that comes with these drums. There's also the "hip" factor...

Re: Vintage cymbal education...

Well Zen is no doubt, the distinguished authority, but there are a few things I can think of that I look for with regards to medium to light weight 20's and 22's that are fairly foolproof.

A small...

Re: My "Holy Grail"

I'd be shocked if that wasn't an A. Sometimes clangy by themselves but in the music they're perfect.
My go to set up is a 20 and 22.

Re: Jeff Hamilton "Off Stage"..

You could ask him how he ended up playing with (fill in the blank)
Ray Brown
Diana Krall
Monty Alexander
Might elicit some behind the scene funny stories.

When he has time, what does he...

Re: K. Zildjian Constantinople...the worlds most sought after cymbals

A very dark and primitive (for lack of a better word) sound, but beautiful indeed. I took that photo but didn't know there was a sound file of these. Was it part of the ebay auction?

Re: How do you play your vintage snare?

The whole point of owning one IMO is to put it up against all newer snares... and play it!
Unlike a complete vintage kit which more than likely will sound best with the music in vogue when it was...

Re: Cleaning a NOB 1920s Ludwig Snare

That looks great. I cleaned my 5x14 NOB to a nice shine as well. It's never going to look new so I didn't worry about cleaning it up. Still got the mojo. Enjoy playing it.
