Slingerland mid-60s floor tom

Looking for a sparkle red mid-60s Slingerland floor tom. Either 14" or 16" is fine. Will also consider shells with damaged wrap that can be rewrapped. In either case, looking for good condition...

Re: Ludwig Student Snare, early 1960s

We've agreed on a price we both can live with. I'll get it this weekend and start tinkering with it.

Thank you everybody!

Re: Ludwig Student Snare, early 1960s

That's what we're trying to find out. He's a friend from church, so I would rather help him get the best price even if it means I can't afford it myself.

It needs serious cleanup, new heads. ...

Re: Ludwig Student Snare, early 1960s

A follow-up, I've attached the photos. The snare is wood, not metal, and it's been stored in the garage for years. The owner said it was a "Ludwig Snare Orchestra Batter" but I suspect he's reading...

Ludwig Student Snare, early 1960s

Good morning!

I have a friend who is thinking about selling his 1960s Ludwig snare to me. I haven't see photos of it yet, so I'm not sure what model it is or what condition. But I wanted to open...

Re: Another pawn shop score!

They actually sound too loud for my tastes, and the 22" sustains forever. Since I don't gig, I don't need them for performances. I'll probably resell them.

Re: Slingerland tuning help

Actually I agree with leedybdp and johnnyringo as to not forcing my 50 year old Slingerland to sound like a 2018 Ludwig. It's a vintage set, and its character should show through. And as it's not a...

Re: Another pawn shop score!

Thanks! The last stamp is very tall, looks like a "Type II Large" as described in one of the links. Late 50s/early 60s.

I'm debating whether to keep them or sell them.

Another pawn shop score!

I've been cleaning up a used PDP FS set to resell in spring. In my market, sets sell much easier with a couple of cymbals, so over the weekend I hit all the local pawn shops, looking for some cheap...

Re: Slingerland tuning help

Follow-up: the bearing edge on the 14 is fine but... drum roll... the counterhoop is warped. To test it I "borrowed" the batter hoop from my son's Mapex snare and now I have much better tone...

Re: Slingerland tuning help

Thanks! Over on FB, the Slingerland group also suggested I check the re-rings for age/damage I might have missed when I first put the set up.

Slingerland tuning help

I need tuning help, please!

A few months back I purchased a 1971 Slingerland Avante (12/13/14/16/22) set from an estate. I replaced the heads with Evans G1, coated on batter, clear on reso. I...

Thanks, everybody!

1970s, maybe New Beats... so I guess my $25 was well spent? (laughing)

Identifying a yard sale find

Happy Thanksgiving!

I picked up a pair of Zildjian hi-hat cymbals at a yard sale today, and I was wondering if anybody can help me identify them. They sound "better" than the ZBT/S series, but I...

10" Slingerland Tom

Work interrupted me, but I finally found time to add the 10" Slingerland tom to my existing set. The tone range is great, I can play "I Don't Care Anymore" by Phil Collins again!

The 10" tom is a...

Re: Ludwig Red Sparkle Drums

Johnny, it's a beautiful set and it's almost identical to my first drum set. If it was a 20" bass I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Re: Squeaky hi-hat

Thanks!

The stand was $20 so I thought it was worth getting, just to keep accumulating "Slingerland" brand hardware. For playing, I'm using new PDP hardware.

Re: Squeaky hi-hat

Thanks, Woody!

That begs the question of how to disassemble the lower tube. So far everything seems to be riveted together.

Squeaky hi-hat

Greetings, all!

Over the weekend I picked up a Slingerland hi-hat stand at a flea market. I'm not sure of the age or model (see photos) but it does not have a tension adjustment. But for $20, it...

Re: Thickness of 3-ply Slingerland drums

Thanks!

I wonder how different the tone of the maple shells will be when compared t my existing set? Maybe I need to look at their mahogany vintage shells instead?

Re: Thickness of 3-ply Slingerland drums

Thickness of 3-ply Slingerland drums

Does anybody know how thick a 1960s-70s 3 ply Slingerland drum shell is in mm? And how thick the retaining rings are in mm?

I'm looking for both tom and bass drum thicknesses. Not worried about...
