Re: Big Shout Out to Robyn64 and Peddle Pusher

All I did was write and mail a check, but Robyn is THE BOMB (I think that is what the younger set says). As she says, "Stay Wiggly". Hang in there Mark. Joe

Re: Treeworks chimes... which one?

I have the double row Tree Works chimes and also the model with the repeating pitches (forgot the name) and I think you would be very satisfied with any of their products and especially the double...

Re: 'Good' head for gong/pancake drum?

I put medium weight Remo Renaissance heads on several marching bass drums that ranged from 16" up to 36" for use in percussion ensembles. We also had two 38" single headed bass drums with six inch...

Re: Need A Kit

Dudes, When you get a drum set figured out, I would be glad to reimburse for shipping. I can do a check or PayPal. Next time I am in San Antonio we can go to Mi Tierra or that wonderful deli from...

Re: Wanted old bass drum late 1800s, early 1900

How about a "new" bass drum that just looks old? We recycle old marching bass drums into rope tensioned bass drums and add the internal light bulbs and have fun with them. Just a thought. This may...

Re: What do I do to prepare a bearing edge for staining?

I don't know what Tama used for your tom or what shade you are attempting to match, but I use Orange Shellac from a big box or hardware store that seems to work fine for natural wood drum shell...

Re: Ludwg External Snare Drum Mufflers?

I have never seen any Ludwig brand external snare drum mufflers but have been wrong lots of times and lately. I have seen folks muffle mylar head (as opposed to Kevlar) marching drums with small...

Re: ASBA Caroline Pedals

Carolinas can be colorful pedals. Sounds like you are having a good time with both the Caroline and Jacque Capelle. What's not to love?

Re: 16x16 floor tom to snare drum.

Sorry to not read your post clearly. Yes, I have used shorter length snare units to see how a drum sounds until I can get a correct length snare unit. I usually use ribbon instead or string...

Re: 16x16 floor tom to snare drum.

I have good friend who makes rope tensioned drums of this size and larger and they sound great (Heritage Drum Company). If you decide to go with the 42 strand snares you will probably need to make...

Re: Out with the old...

I would propose option four which is to make your set in the desired sizes from parts harvested from used Ludwig drums. You can buy a beat up Ludwig set (or marching drums and orphans) and scavenge...

Re: Refurbish kick drum beater

I don't think you can get the metal cup off (and back on) very easily without a risk of messing up its shape. I have not done it, but I would think it would be better to cut the beater portion off...

Re: Refurbish kick drum beater

I don't usually replace the felt on old bass drum beaters but I do often clean the really old hard felt ones with a Clorox pen used for spot removal. I have also poured straight Clorox in a metal...

Re: ASBA Caroline Pedals

Capelle had several versions of their wonderful pedals. Here are some photos. There were two versions of the "pole" model, round tube and square tube. They also made wonderful high hat stands. I...

Re: Paul McCartney was right...

I will have to send you a tee shirt I have that says "Old Dudes Rock Harder". I always thought that folks who played jazz or other styles made better rock and show drummers. It has something to do...

Re: Marching Drum Heads?

Sorry it took me so long to get some photos of the Blaemire snare drum shell. I got this from helping Tommy Winkler of Nashville move out of his shop. If I understand correctly he custom made it...

Re: Doug Clifford's CCR Camco kit.

I remember reading at the Phoenix MIM display that Doug kept knocking over his Camco cymbal stands so the roadies put some circular stage weights over the tripod legs. That kept the stands stable...

Re: Marching Drum Heads?

Brian, Since you have a 15" diameter drum you made the perfect choice with the WFL snare stand. My high school band marched 12" by 15" parade drums and I remember that they would fit on those...

Re: Marching Drum Heads?

Brian, You are quite welcome. I forgot to ask what diameter is the drum? In the past a lot of marching drums were 15" but the style has gone to higher pitch and 14" it seems to me. Drum companies...

Re: Marching Drum Heads?

The only good drum for any kind of Kevlar head is a modern marching drum and only if you want a modern high pitch sound. I have a Kevlar head on a Premier Scottish pipe band drum and it is...

Re: Rogers BOP kit

No, you have a choice in the size of the metal flesh hoop when you buy 18 inch (and 16 also I believe) for this exact reason. Some bass drums hoops will "slide" off of a drum head with a "normal"...

Re: Gretsch RB, what heads are you using?

I don't have oversize drums but do have two Gretsch snare drums. I have been using the Aquarian American Vintage medium weight batter heads on all my drum set drums. Instead of a thin American...

Re: Lowrider Snare Stand

I made a low snare stand for a Firchie snare drum from the base of a cheap throne that had very large rubber feet. The feet did not open very wide at all so the result was a short bottom portion. ...

Re: Identify Bass Pedal

The footboard looks to me like it was taken from a Rogers Swiv-O-Matic. Can't tell much about the rest of the pedal. It is similar to the attached photo but not the exact same footboard.
