Re: Ludwig Standards with Resocoat and date stamps?

Actually that looks to me like it could easily be Granitone.

Agree the price is steep.

Re: Cymbal lathing in Canada??????

Well now that is very interesting. I wonder what they'd say if you sent them an Xs20 and asked them to turn it into something like an old K. :)

The last thing I read from the guy in MTL (can't...

Re: Kit Made of marching snares (as toms) and marching bass drum???

The 14" snare stacks nicely on top of it too. :)

Great looking kits dudes, great idea.

Re: Ludwig Downbeat

4 extra holes in the kick, presumably for missing rail mount, but yeah I'd buy them, after checking the workmanship on the new tom holder installation - it can be ugly.

Re: Innovative designs that attempted to "improve" upon tradition.

Good point on the resonance issue. I've never worried about a drum shell de-forming from head-tension but I guess it's a thing. :)

Re: Innovative designs that attempted to "improve" upon tradition.

All this work to make the drums resonate more and 9 times out of 10 the drummer will use some sort of damping to reduce it. :)

Re: Time For Some Fun

Phil would be my pick too, probably with the Trick Of The Tail tour kit, although they were all pretty cool, starting with the blonde 4-piece.

Surprised though that you rate him below Peart. As...

Re: Ludwig Speed King 2020 Reissue question.

I know eh? It's not just the execution, but the ideas he had that continue to blow me away.

Re: Vintage Champion Snare Drum

Very cool snare I love 13" snare drums. Had to have one. I cut down a Pioneer to 13" - the shell was already very much compromised, with some previous owner having moved all the tension casings one...

Re: Ludwig Speed King 2020 Reissue question.

A little clip to back up my words above. Go to 1:58 for the drums to start, then at 2:25 the kick drums fireworks begin. Maybe the new SK design would have made it easier...

Re: Ludwig Speed King 2020 Reissue question.

On the issue of "responsiveness" of the original SK - well, John Bonham got some good speed out of them and Phil Collins just *flew* on those things, super-fast.

Of course JB has passed and PC...

Re: I Want to Play Better

I find certain rudiments or licks more useful/fun than others.

1 - hertas
2 - blushdas (a herta with a flam and a double stroke)

3 - 6-stroke roll
4 - inverted doubles (hands, plus hands...

Re: Approx value? LUDWIG Keystone 1959 Trans badge JAZZ"DownBeat"

It's beauty alright. I love 13" snares. Also appreciate a good finish obsession - I went from wood, to WMP, to silver sparkle and now back to wood again. Gold sparkle was always top-of-the-list...

Re: Uneven lug factory placement???

I had a set of Club Dates where the BD casings were closer to the batter side and some were skewed. Who'd a thunk it eh? :)

Re: Maybe I should Have Kept These Drums

You might be thinking of this kit (pictured), which I'm pretty sure I was using early 90s, with Dime Museum....sold them to Andrew Henry...bought them back years later...sold them again :) 22" Ludwig...

Re: Maybe I should Have Kept These Drums

Yes. Tom centered over BD is not a favorite visually for me though. Again just personal aesthetic preferences. But super handy if 3 bands are on the bill and one drummer is a lefty...

Re: Flat or Angled?

Interesting. Recently set the crashes at the old 70s angle just for kicks. Mostly an aesthetics thing and to be different from everyone else going flat. I'm liking it. But the setup constantly...
