i found this for cheap. but i've never seen a slingerland like it. not sure if its some other snare with a slingerland 60's badge grommeted on. The lugs (10 lug) seem correct though. i liked the sound of it so i got anyway.
here it is...
any ideas??

a very similar one just popped up on eBay.
but that one is 8 lugs instead of 10.

AdamJay:
This is a 1969 Model #140 Deluxe Student, aluminum shell model. Slingerland cataloged the #140 at this time with 8 lugs as standard, but they made quite a few with 10 lugs also.
Unfortunate that someone drilled an extra hole and put a generic strainer on, instead of the original Rapid. Still a great drum; when appropriately tuned with the right heads the #140 can be a particularly crisp and responsive snare drum. Another Slingerland "secret".

DrCJW,
thanks alot for ID'ing this snare.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for a Rapid strainer on eBay.
i picked this snare up from a musicgoround store in Wisconsin. i paid $60. and i can't stop playing it. it has become my go-to when i am recording mostly rimshots.
