Hi, this is my latest E-bay purchase/project. It's a 12x4 wooden snare, which looks pretty nice, fitted with Premier everplay skins, featuring the old Premier logo. It's got those fittings you find on child's drum kits - you know, no tension lugs, just a single rod for both skins, and 5 sets of them. Also, they have slot-type heads, not drum key size. There's only 8 wires on the snare. It sounds lousy, so I was going to convert it with some old lugs/rods, to see if I can get it sounding usuable, as it could make a nice little side snare. Trouble is I dont want to start putting holes in it if, crappy sounding or no, it's infact old and worth a little. Any ideas/advice?

Maybe you could buy the lugs Pearl uses for its free-floating snare series. I bet it will get expensive though. It looks like it is not such good wood, maybe mahogony or luan or some such. It may not be worth the expense.

Hi - belated response this! And an update! Your right - the wood is pretty flimsy - but I bought a cheap s/h CB tom for about ?10, and used the nut-boxes off that (They were singles, so I staggered them) bought some lugs for a couple of pounds - hey presto! A nice little 12" piccolo, that's got quite a crack! My Omar Hakim signature doesn't shame it, so it's not too bad considering!
