You don't see this often - Buddy working out on a non-buddy config. Sweet work it is. You really gotta love his deep understanding of what makes drumming musical. ...and how 'bout those serious taps from Johnny!!! You know he's got it going on.

Yes, Buddy could play anything and make it work, but you gotta wonder what the heck someone was thinking setting up a double tom set for him - and with the ride up high where he never used it... I could feel him thinking "what is this crap?" The kit was set up perfect for In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

The comedy for me was the 421 mic on the big mounted tom... most likely the set was something Ludwig sent over from a local music store. Tight miking a jazz drummer seems so wrong, but so typical of the era.

Johnny did sound good, and the band was superb!

Apparently no one believed in resonance in drums in 1981....LOL.....they look like ambassadors, yet they sound like evans hydraulics......read that as dead. Otherwise a great performance by Buddy on an unfamiliar kit.
