as a complete novice to the vintage drum game I accept my ignorance and reach out yet again for any educated guesses as to what kind of drum set this might be

Not Slingerland. Looks like a modified cheap '60 / '70s import set, with some laundry in the bass drum.

If it is a Slingerland, someone is going to be punished severely for the hardware mods and the holes drilled.
