Hi, I am a new member and I have the following question about a 12 inch tom I just bought:
Are there always badges on the drums or has there been a time without badges?
Thanks

Slingerland always had badges on their bass and snare drums and started badging the toms somewhere around '63-'64.

hi vadrums,
thanks very much for the quick response. the tom is a black/grey pearl with original calfskins with the slingerlandlogo on them. the seller was not sure but dates the tom about 1948. it looks good and sounds nice. i want to collect of course a complete set and my wish is to get a radioking set in near future.
kind regards

abidrums, vadrums:
Actually Slingerland first began putting badges on kit toms in 1966. Marching toms (tenors, timp toms, etc) were different - they got badges well before that. I'll be discussing this in more detail along with related topics in an upcoming Slingerland article.
Unless added later or a special order, a Slingerland kit tom made in 1948 would not normally have a badge.
