just wondering what the tan paint/wash indicates as opposed to just plain wood? is it any indication of year?

From late 60's to mid 70's they were using the tan painted interiors.

We have a resident Slingerland expert Dr CJW that should possibly be doing another article on Slingerland shells, so he could probably pin point more accurate data about Slingerland shells.

Slingerland used the tan paint - what I call the beige weak chocolate milky stain - from the fall of 1966 into 1972. In 1970 they started going back to clear maple interiors, but the drums with chocolate interior continued to appear after that as Slingerland used up its stock, tapering down in number after 1970. By the end of 1972 all shells were clear maple again.
