Just wondering what type of stand to use for a deep snare? Like maybe an eight inch or maybe even a ten inch. Deepest snare I have right now is five and a half and my snare stand is as low as it goes.
Thanks in advance

I've got the flat base DW stand, I would think it would work (i think its the 7300) I goes real short with the legs extended

How low do you keep your snare......I have a Pearl stand that Iuse with my
8" deep Superten without any height issues. But Iam 6'4" and sit pretty high I suppose.

I sit pretty low I guess, and I like my drums low. The reason I am asking is I am going to check out a ten inch deep snare and don't want to have to get a stand just for this snare. I have an old flat base snare stand I could maybe use.

How about this one?

Ludwig 900 Series (www.interstatemusic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10021&productId=100854)

I sit fairly low I guess ( legs at a 45 ) and even a 6.5 can be a little
high with either Yamaha or Tama baskets.

Sitting too low can eventually do damage to your knees. Just passing on what I have read about proper posture behind the drum kit...........I sit knees below hips about 4-5 inches..........

And your back too! I use a throne with a backrest and I sit kind of high compared to most people.....but then again I am 6'4".....Cool Dude

Also I'm probably one of the last guys out there that play heel down all the time, so sitting high helps me a bit with that.

Me, too! That's why the SpeedKing works so well for me. It was almost designed for heel-down players. I also sit up high since I slipped the L-5/S-1 disc in my back a few years ago.Violin

Where I grew up, the "proper" technique for bass drum pedal work was taught as being heel-down. Of course, nowadays, anything is proper. It's all good!

Ya but NO ONE my age does this method anymore! I guess I'm just old school....born in the wrong time I guess

Woa, that must be why I am having problems with my right knee!! Never thought there was a designated sitting height. How far below should your knees be below your hips?

I don't think there is a one size fits all solution. I used to sit a bit low, but as I've aged, I've found it more comfortable to sit so my legs form a 90 degree angle at the knee. Snare is about 1/4" to 1/2" above my thigh, as is my floor tom.

I play heel down for the simple stuff and heel up for faster patterns. It's all about conserving energy for me. I don't do any more work than I have to :)

As for snare stands, I heard from another drummer that Pearl made a low profile snare stand at one point (maybe they still do).

I guess whatever is comfortable for you. Sitting higher will take pressure off your knees. Try it and let us know,,,,,,I am an old soccer player aand my knees are bad enough as it is....one good thing is that my kick is very strong when required to be so........
