Hi there:
Can anyone throw any light on the likely age of this brass snare, origins, or any info about Kitchen & Co. of Leeds, England (the makers) themselves?
More pics available on request. Size approx 14" x 3.5". No snare throw off as such. Just a screw that one tightens or loosens accordingly. Tensioners are thumb screw type. These unscrew from threaded rod that passes through tube into top ball. Vellum over wood-hoop skins. Inside top and lower hoops are red painted.. Possibly entire drum was at sometime red? No traces remain elsewhere though?
Cheers!: Mike

Unfortunatly over here in England this sort of snare remainded in production and use untill the second world war.I have a late 30s Windsor Catalogue [which can be viewed at www.drumarchive.com (http://www.drumarchive.com) which has with up to date Beverley Dual twin snare drums and several single tension snares including the All Brass Orchestral snare drums just like the one pictured at ?3.10.0, plain brass.extra for nickel or chrome plating. Also the cheaper all brass Excelsior with 8 rods for ?2.5.0.Dion
