I need a 12" chrome over wood rack tom.
Ialso have a 20" floor tom that sounds like thunder .
Has anyone heard of a drum like this and how rare are they and are they valuable?

Chrome over wood Slingerlands, especially on oversize drums, were pretty common in the '70s. Although these usually have the nice, 3 ply maple shells with rings (some have the less desireable 5 ply shells), the chrome wrap brings down the value. It's heavy and tends to dent, rust and scratch easily. They're cool looking and sounding drums...I'd hold onto them. An 8 x12 shouldn't be too hard to find if you're patient. I hacve an 18 x 20" floor tom in Red tiger pearl...actually had two once, and used one as a bass drum...sounded great.
