Shell ID Help Needed

Hello gents.
I need help identifying this shell. My guess is it's a 50's or older Ludwig. I hope the holes in the shell will provide a clue if need be. I've had it for years and am planing to restore it to at least a players drum. I wish it was an 8 lug, but it just might sound decent with six.
Also any direction to an online supplier for parts would be very helpful.

I'm pretty sure what you have is a 1920s Ludwig and Ludwig. I think it's an early pioneer or universal...either way...you're lucky in that it has what appears to be the heavier version of their two piece soldered nickel over brass shell. This is the same shell Ludwig & Ludwig used on their '20s Black beauties. These are great sounding drums, even with six lugs. Obviously, there have been many attempts to put different throw offs on it...so from a collector's perspective, it doesn't have a lot of value. But this will make an excellent player. I'd find a working throw off that fits a hole pattern, if you can. I'd recomment cleaning the shell and lugs with Cape Cod polishing cloths. I'd find a nice set of single flange vintage brass hoops (better than those straight ones) and some repro clips, and new tension rods. 6 lug die cast hoops will work well, too. Should be a fun project...don't get this involved if you're planning on selling, though, as you probably wouldn't recoup your investment!

Thanks so much for this information Rick. I'm actually shocked that it's that old. I was only 30 years off. :rolleyes:
I'll take your recommendations and pick up the single flanged brass hoops, clips and tension rods. I'd like to maintain the look and not use the die cast hoop if possible. I am planning to hang on to it and put it in gig rotation with my 18/12/14.
Drum Foundry was recommended as a good bet for parts. Any other spots out there?
