I recently came across two 70's Ludwig concert toms in 13" and 15" sizes. Both drums are natural maple and have the Olive/Blue badge. Strange thing about these drums is the 15" drum has a shell construction unlike any Ludwig that I have seen. The 13" drum has the standard Maple/Poplar/Maple w/ Solid Maple Re-enforcement ring and blonde interior. The 15" drum looks exactly the same on the outside, but the shell is a 6-ply w/ 4-ply Re-enforcement ring and what looks to be all Maple.
The badge appears to be untampered with, but I guess it would still be possible that it was moved to a different drum.
I have never known Ludwig to have plied Re-enforcement rings or to have plies this thin. The shells look kind of like Jasper shells.
Anyone know if Ludwig ever made shells like this?
