I recently bought a four piece Slingerland kit in excellent condition. Tiger stripe-- snare, 13" tom, 16" floor tom, 22" bass drum. The bass drum has a badge which reads Niles, Illinois. The small tom has a stamp on the inside which reads May 65. But...there are no badges on the either of the toms, only on the bass drum. What's the story with that?

Thanks in advance.

It is not uncommon at all to have no badge toms. This was the way Slingerland did it early on up until a certain year.

Maybe someone else can shed light on that in regards to the years etc..

It could also be that the drums were refinished to match.

It would be nice to see some pictures and get more details about the shells and hardware etc..

It is all speculation without seeing them in more detail.

Here's the photo I was sent when buying the drums. Again, the rack tom has a stamp May 65. Also---is this Tiger Swirl or Black Onyx?

Nice kit, and the finish looks like Gray Agate Pearl with some color variation.

Yes, you have Slingerland's grey agate..it's the same as Rogers' black onyx. The white tiger came a few years later...I think the badges in the toms came around '66 or '67...Great set you've got there...

Thanks for the input, guys. I had looked at the color charts before but never really found a 'match', so to speak. Thanks.

The drums are in perfect condition. Not a mark on any of them. Care to venture a value?

I'd guess a 22, 13,16 w/ matching snare, in original condition, is worth at least 1000; maybe higher if it's a solid shell snare. Wouldn't shock me if it sold on ebay for 800 or 1600...I'll give ya 500 right now! Merry Christmas...

I have a Slingerland floor tom dated I believe either 66 or 67 inside the drum with the p stamp also.I also have a 13" tom with about the same date stamped on the inside. neither drum has a badge nor does it have a badge hole in the shell. the wrap is a beautiful gray oyster pearl.I also have the matching bass drum that does have the badge dated 1966 I believe. I don't guess the fact that the drums do not have a badge makes them more valuable, does it? these three drums are in excellent condition!!
Would you have a guess as to what they would be worth?
Thanks, Bob.
