Requesting your help to identify this Rogers Kit

16x16 Floor Tom
24x14 Bass Drum

Floor tom has the mark 9/72, as well as a serial number.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I am trying to sell these and downgrade to a smaller kit for various reasons.

The rogers 9/72 were made from 1972 to 1976,could not find ser# b14,but the drums with a B serial prefix appeared to be 1973 by the dating guide at the Rogers forum owners forum. Your kit could have been a special order,or part of a larger config,or both.

In 1973 10 x 14 toms were offered with the Londoner 6 and 7 set up,the 24 kicks was offered on the 7,and the Louis Bellson kit that had standard depth toms,the kicks were virgin like yours.

As far as resale,the 24 kick is desirable for sure ,the 14 16 tom combo not as much.

Another question.. I was told that the floor tom has a die cast hoop, which is not original to the Rogers Drums. Can someone confirm this?

Hi Dave, Die cast is not original. Also, the two factors of your kit...virgin bass drum and 9/72 era makes me think that your kit was part of a bigger kit and possibly was double bass? Many guys broke those kits up...so yougot the 14...but I bet there was a 13" originally. Try to find a 13" and sell it as 13,16,24 or 12,13,16,24 the 14, 16,24 config is gonna hurt sales a bit. Possibly 1973 but more likely 1974. Definitely not 1975 as the 22" virgin ebony bass I special ordered in 1975 arrived with matching ebony hoop inlay, not the silver glass inlay of previous years as on this 24".

I'd bet it was part of an Ultra-Power 7 kit. That set up was 2-24's 13, 14, 16, 18. Those look to be in very nice condition. Regarding the 14, 16 set-up. The guys are right, it isn't typical but I use that set-up nearly everyday in the studio.
My two cents and nearly worth it...

Probably half of a double-bass kit, as mentioned above. I have a 24-14-18 kit I use for certain gigs, it looks good and sounds fine.

Main problem is no tom mount on the bass. The buyer is going to want to know how the tom is mounted for playing.
