What is Correct Nut Configuration for Clam Shell Lever?

Now that I've completely taken apart my 59 Radio King with clam shell strainer, I noticed an odd use of multiple nuts to hold the lever rod in place inside the shell.

Can anyone tell me (or show me) what it is supposed to look like before I put it back together?

I was searching for the same thing. Here is a pic of what mine looked like before I took it apart. I don't think this is correct so I was searching for an example of the correct installation.
