Mystery vintage snare. . .

Any guesses as to what this is? It has no anything except "pat. pend" on the throwoff, I thought at first part of the throwoff was missing, but now I realize that it is complete except for the outer part of the clamp.

Lugs look kind of like leedy, but not quite. I have checked all over the place and still can't pin it down. Probably 20's and the drum is heavy nickel plate brass with cast rims.

Pictures are kinda small, so it's hard to tell for sure, but the throw off looks a lot like the one on my 1920's Ludwig Jr. model snare. My throw off has nothing stamped on it, but I've seen other 20's Ludwigs which have the Pat. Pend. stamp.

The rest of the drum sounds like it's the same construction except that you're snare has double beads running round the shell. Mine has a single.

Check the rims closely (especially the top one). Mine is engraved with a simple script logo - Ludwig. It's small.

What's the size of the drum? Any chance you could post links to bigger pictures?

The drum seems to be an odd size, 13.5 by like 4" deep. the double bead threw me off as well, because it seems that all fo the ludwigs had single bead, and the only ones I found close with double bead were leedys from the 20's, but the hardware was different, there were two studs on the tube lugs and not just one.
Didn't see any markings on the rims, but I may have to take them off and check a little closer. The heads seem to be original and in excellent shape.

Ah... much better pictures. I can now see that the throw off is different than my Ludwig. Not to say that you're isn't also a ludwig, but I can see a clear difference now.

The plot thickens...

I think someone with more experience needs to chime in. I'm relatively new to the vintage game.

I just sold that same drum on ebay. I believe it to be a Duplex from the 19teens...the size is 13 1/4" x 4...I had to special order heads from Remo for it. The tension rods are 10/24, like the old Leedys. I think Duplex may have made these drums for distributors like Sears, or Montegomery Wards.
