There is serious doubt that this is an unaltered original set. The drums all show beavertail lugs and the serial numbers on some of the drums indicate they were made before beavertails were available. Some of these drums were B&B drums. I have a feeling someone is going to be very unhappy.

Can you tell from inside the shell? Don't the two types of lugs have different whole spacings? The ad said all original. Heck if whoever bought it reads this thread they may get cold feet. I am just amazed that even if it was factory perfect that womeone would want those this bad.

I have looked through my collection and I have found a couple examples of beavertail era drums with lower numbers than that set. Is there something I am missing about that green set??? It all looks fine to me.

There doesn't seem to be a perfect science to the numbers (tags) thrown Rogers drums of this amazing era. Here is a picture of my beloved green Luxor with low s#.

OK. So here is my question. I know the fellows with the Buddy Rich WMP Rogers kits want $5K for them, but why this kit? I bits'ed together a 12, 14, 20 Cleveland kit with matching snare and went out and got the hardware and had to have it rewrapped due to the non-matching fades and I'm probably into it for less than half of that and I really feel like I over paid but at least the kit looks exactly like I want it to (pictures to be posted soon). Is it so hard to find a matching kit in decent shape? Is green so unusual?

From a collector’s standpoint, when you read the description and view the pictures you will see that this offering has plenty to distinguish it. In 20 years this sale may look like a bargain similar to the "Buddy Rich WMP Rogers kits" for “ONLY” $5K!

Are you viewing this as function verses price… today? If so I can understand your comments. Investment value and resale value would not add to the value in any way for you.

I my opinion you may be wrong about over paying on your project kit unless you don’t care for the Rogers sound quality you ended up with. You like the looks! If you like what you ended up with??? Could you have paid less and obtained the qualities that you wanted, any other way?

Today’s vintage drum prices verses new top line product and custom drum prices are similar to what was happening way back in the ‘70s as far as vintage guitar prices verses new top line and custom guitar prices.

For those of us who like vintage drums, “times are good”.

When the Wall Street Journal wrote an article about the positive aspects of investing in vintage guitars it fueled a price explosion in the vintage guitar market. I bought a ’59 Les Paul in the ‘90s for $33K, fast forward to today, nice ’59 Les Pauls sell occasionally and for $250K plus. Extreme examples bring prices that are multiples of that. Something similar to what happened to the vintage guitar market could happen to the vintage drum market.

I think you answered this question yourself when you told us about your project kit!
Is green so unusual?
As far as green being unusual?? Start a thread and ask people to show their Green Rogers transition drum kits. It would be fun to see them. But make no mistake about it the finish does not have to be unusual or even rare for an item to command a price… it is “supply and demand”. ’59 Les Pauls are usually a sunburst finish though not always, ’59 Les Pauls were built a certain way for that year only, there are about 500 ’59 Les Pauls!! 500 may seem like a lot of guitars but the supply is not enough, therefore the price goes up and out of sight for most.

From a collectors standpoint, was it the green?, was it the transition features?, was it the condition?, was it a combination of those three aspects or something else? Anyway in today’s vintage drum market I don’t think that people are overpaying. I am pretty sure that in 10 years, we will all look back and say, “2007!… those were the good old days for buying vintage drums”.

Hehe...Or sell them and buy 5 other Rogers kits (not on e-bay) Anyway...I'm pretty shure that my kit is rewrapped...so probably no 5K for me.
