Jazzfest (nickel-plated)

Ludwig "Jazz Festival", 5" by 14", 3-ply snare from the early 60s with nickel-plated hardware.

It still has its factory original Black Diamond Pearl wrap and interior white resacote paint untouched and the hoops are nickel over brass.

The sound is very subtle and responsive. The bearing edges are smooth and even and the shell is perfectly round. The finest example of "Jazz Festival" snare I have ever played.

Speaking about Super-classic, some time ago I saw a Buddy Rich Super Classic kit from 1948 on ebay. The interior of the shells were painted white. I was surprised to find that Ludwig started to paint interior shells earlier than the 60s.

Later I even found a Ludwig&Ludwig snare from 1946 who also had a white painted interior, and a time stamp 4609. Watch clip (http://youtu.be/NsxfgjNaM9M)

JohnHi, yes classic drums are fun when they are in good shape : )

My old snare also has some company. It is a 1948 WFL Buddy Rich Super Classic 16" fl. tom. That drum also has a well-preserved 3-ply wood shell that is in perfect condition like the Jazzfest.
